Steering Damper,

Does anyone know through what years the Supra came with a steering damper? Did it just come on the Turbo models ar all Supras? Friend of mine has a 90 Turbo but doesnt have the mount tab for it. My 89 has it tho. Just wondering.

yes in 90 to 92 they ditched the dampener

toyota made many rack's i think they made 4 diffent ones

soe of them have more rack travle as well

Pre-89 has them.

Sounds like your car either isn't a real 89, or someone swapped it. The power steering pump was also given a smaller pulley to supply more pressure to the rack to account for the loss of dampening.

If you have PPS, you don't get the damper.

no it wonte cause play if you have play it's your callum most likly

the majority of 89 cars I've seen are like this (two of my own, and another 4 or 5 local cars). I think the round mount 89s are pretty rare.

I think the confusion is people thinking an 89 on the data stamp means and 89 when in reality it's a 90 model...

Is it safe to remove the damper on my 87? What difference would it make to not have it? My IC pipe is currently getting pinched between it and my Whiteline sway bar.

Also what is the purpose of the damper? To make the wheel not turn sharply over bumps or uneven road? My car has this problem.

Its supposed to help on bumpy roads and stuff to keep your steering wheel from jerking around, if yours is doing that, maybe the strut is blown

can we figure out which racks have this extra travel and if it will fit an 87....im replacing my bllown rack while my engine is out and would like to have more travel if i can

Maybe its not the original rack? From what I know they ditched them in 90 as a previous post mentioned. I think toyota realized that not too many people were 4 wheeling the supra
