I was digging through this artical:

http://www.explore-cars.com/motor_vehicles/T/Toyota_M_engine.html

and read this:

7M-GTE
The turbocharged 7M-GTE was Toyota's top performance engine from 1987 through 1992. Output was near 230 hp (172 kW) at 5600 RPM and 240 ft.lbf (325 Nm) at 4000 RPM for most 5 psi/0.35 bar versions.

A special evolution version with a different turbocharger pushed output to 265 hp (198 kW) at 5600 RPM and 264 ft.lbf (357 Nm) at 4400 RPM.

WTF is this? Is this the Turbo A? I've never heard it called evolution version

As far as I know the Turbo A didn't have a diff turbo, diff cams, diff air metering and other things........maybe they meant 1jz?

the turbo A had a differnt turbo, a differnt verson of the ct26 called the ct26a, it had different cams and map sensing instead of a restrictive mass airflow sensor like so many of us are plagued with. i believe it also had a bigger throttlebody as well. im sure someone will add to this list if i didn't get it all. i would assume they mean the turbo A. it was probably their way of saying it was a special model. thats the best i can do. the tech guru's will probalby have more/better/clearer info for you.

I had a pretty good idea of what the diffrences in the turbo A were. What I was wondering was if the evolution version was another name for the Turbo A, or if it was something diffrent.

I don't think the Turbo A used a Karmann type meter.

It didn't, I just worded that poorly.

Stanza - I was wrong apparently - they did have different turbos, but I don't think that the differing factors was how it was marked. You have a CT26A too.....go look at your compressor housing.

Supra CT26 (A):Notice the 'A' Marked on the opposite side of the compressor housing. All Supra CT's have that.......

Cool. Now when some mitsubishi guy talks to me about how bad ass the evolution is, I can say "Yep the supra evo sure is bad ass." :D
