Hey Guys,
I know, I'm quickly becoming the dumb (and frequent) question king, but I just got the Supe 2 months ago so I'm gradually trying to fix all the little details that are wrong, and I like to get feedback here to check ideas with my mechanic as well, just to bounce off him.

So, the latest installation:
I am wondering if this might be the heater core, or something related. I have sort of a film that develops on the inside of the windshield, its pretty thick after just a week. It is a major PITA cuz its terrible to see thru at night. I also have what many have called the 'waterfall' noise behind the dash-very very sporadically. Iono if these are related or not, since according to the prev owner he thinks whatever is causing the film comes up thru the defrost vents or behind the dash, and some people have said its the heater core that causes the waterfall noise (I think). Any ideas?
Thanks in advance, you guys rock!

The waterfall noise from what I recall is air in your coolant system.
BTW no question is stupid, Might as well ask up and learn!

To burp it. I pull it in my drive way.
Remove your radiator cap.
Start your car.
Run it for 5-10 minuites with your heater on full blast
Squeeze the block to radiator hose a bit. get some bubbles out
turn her off
Fill her back up. May overflow a bit.
Cap on.

Winnar!

Umm, won't I have a huge mess if I run it with the radiator cap off?
Do you think that has anything to do with that stupid film? Lol.

Thanks, Hells.

Film. Cant answer. But I can answer for the waterfall. And yes. you will make a puddle. If your dont care just run it and run a hose underneath to wash it away. Or put a bucket underneath the radiator. Works either way

The film on your windshield is definitely the heater core...and it is more than likely the cause of the waterfall sound...

BTW...your car is gorgeous!

Haha, thats the second time you've said that. Thanks! Lol.
So will burping it get rid of the film or do I need to replace the core, or something else?

Its turbo. Thats beastly to me.

lol...then you would go into cardiac arrest if you rode in mine...it has 4 shims in the wg actuator!! :naughty:...lol

Chad: Yes, you will have to either bypass or replace the heater core...it will likely keep getting worse until your passenger side floorboard becomes a coolant swimming pool! :)

and yes...i love your car...I have always loved the white packages..especially with 5 spokes.

Sounds awesome. Mine's definetly not a beast, even with a turbo.
So I'm assuming bypassing the heater core means I lose the climate control heater, or are we talking about some other heater core? See-I'm illiterate in engine tech for the time being...

I have noticed that if the previous owner or if people have smoked in cars before... the glass gets a "tar" film on it as well that makes it hard to see at night. If the film keeps re-appearing after being cleaned then that rules it out.

I was not sure if you have tryed cleaning it off or not and if it came back. If so, it is definitely not smoker related. (one major reason not to smoke in cars is the nasty smell and tar build up on everything)

time to pull the dash. it's really not as bad as everyone says it is. just take your time. you'll need a 17mm socket and extension, a 10mm socket, and a phillips head screwdriver.

when you get to the point where the dash needs to come out, (needs to come out over the steering wheel) look under the wheel, and you'll see two 17mm nuts. take them off, and let the whole steering column drop down, but make sure to rest it on the driver's seat. this will give you plenty of clearance to get the dash out. (it's either that way which is easy, or removing the steering wheel, which sucks, and then you have to get it to line up perfectly again)

when you get the dash out, you'll see the crossmember/dash support. it'll probably be kindof rusty. haha. in any case, remove the nuts on either side of it (and bolts) pull it toward you from the passenger side, and it'll pop out. then pull it out the passenger side door, just like you did with the dash.

then comes the heater core. it's located in the center white box of ducting. you do NOT have to remove the A/C evaporator to get it out, you just need to use a bit of finesse. :) make sure you pull the lines off the core in the engine bay, too, otherwise you'll be pulling on it and it won't go anywhere.

just take your time. :)
