Shifter Vibration Problem

I'm currently having a problem with my shifter. It starts vibrating at about 2500 rpms and ends around 3000 rpms (at its worst is around 3000 rpms). Anything after it goes away. This happens while I'm driving and while the car is sitting and being reved. Also I noticed that the shifter gets pretty hot (hotter than normal).

I rebuilt the trans about 2000 miles ago. Not too long after the rebuild, it started to leak gear oil. While it was leaking, I had to drive my car (in total of about 100 miles). When I drained it (to remove the trans and fix the leak), only about 2 qts came out. At about 1400 miles the vibration showed up.

Things I've tried:
Changed the trans fluid to MT90 and 1 qt of Lucus (which kinda helped)
Changed the stock driveshaft to a 1 piece steel
Made sure my crank pully is tight

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Check your motor mounts and 3rd engine mount at the back of the tranny.

I've check all the mounts and they seem to look and feel OK (I tried to push on the motor and trans to see if there is play, they seem stiff...). Also they were replaced when the motor and trans were rebuilt...about 2000 miles ago...All OEM mounts.

don't run lucas with the MT-90

will it do this free-reving, or only under load?

Funny that you said that cause I felt that the shifts were smoother with just MT-90...but when I added the Lucas it felt like it help with the vibration...only a little though...but then again it could have been because of the new 1 piece driveshaft...? Also this happens both on and off load, but it vibrates stronger on load.

it happend to me when i broke my pressure plate

When that happened, how did your clutch pedal feel? Any vibrations there or any other symptoms along with the shifter vibrations? My clutch pedal feels pretty normal... I'm currently running a Spec stage 3 (6 puck) with a Assco motor sports lighten flywheel. The friction disc was also replace with a new one. I'll try and remove the access plates and take a look at the pressure plate.

Thanks for all the help guys...

How much power are you putting out? Anyone significantly over stock will chew through the mounts in no time flat, brand new or not.

The only way to check is to unbolt the bottom and use a cherry picker to lift up the engine a bit.

the clutch pedal felt normal at all, i took off the inspection plates out of my tranny and took out little pieces of my pressure plate with my hands (of course with my car turned off). i changed my engine mounts first and it didn´t solve the problem
P.S my whole engine was vibrating, i put the timing light and it was advanced, i put it back to 10 cuase i thought that might be part of the problem, when i put a new clutch, i check timming back and it was way off where i left it.

do you hear any sound?

sounds like rodknock because of the RPM's...

but it very well could be a clutch issue...

The engine reves smooth and other than that vibration I feel and hear nothing out of the ordinary...

i Had same problem with mine, but it went away when i've changed my plugs to Iridium ;)
Is your motor also vibrating, or is just the gear stick?

Just the stick...actually I do have some new NGK irdiums with MSD wires. I was planning on puting them in the next few days. Well my next day off anyways. Was your motor vibrating or the stick or both?

What kind of pressure plate were you running?

C's shifter might vibrate more, the one piece driveshaft could be out of balance, the clutch could be causing issues....

I really doubt it's the tranny at this point though...

This was happening before the 1 piece was installed. Also I just bought a new shifter bushing, doubt it will help but thought I'd put a new one on anyways.

is your exhausr hitting your little heat shield thing on the tranny?

No

Bring the revs up to 2500 in neutral and see if it vibrates the shifter the same this will rule out or confirm it's drivetrain harmonics causing it.

It does vibrate in neutral...but not as strong. Also its vibrates in neutral at about 50mph +. So looking more like something in drivetrain huh?

Stock pressure plate, just take the inspection plates off and check

I was able to remove the inspection plate and the pressure plate looks to be working OK. I had a friend rev the car in neutral, in gear, and shift gears. I did notice some oil shine on the right inside part of the front inspection plate (the one in between the engine and flywheel). Due to the hobby shops closing time I didn't get a chance to remove that one. I'm going to go back to the shop on Wednesday and look more into the oil shine. Maybe that's apart of the problem...? Till then, car is down and out!

Thanks again for all the help guys...

So, I finally got the chance to put it on the lift again and was able to find 2 things.

1. the trans mount appears to have failed (the mounts are not that bad but bad enough).
2. Pressure plate studs (don't know what else to call it). You can't tell from the pictures but they're actually bent a little.

What we're thinking is if that stud is bent then the balance of the pressure plate is off. What do you guys think?
