Ok it's 1:45AM right now where I'm at and we think we got all the bolts off and I have the hoist hooked up now, but I can not get the engine to separate from the tranny, I have pulled every bolt I saw, and quite possibly going insane over this. Currently the block can move freely with the exception of forward :). The six bolts that connected to the tranny have been removed, when I turn the crank I can see the flywheel spin with it where the starter used to be connected. I am not too familiar with the removal of the clutch fork or pressure plate and I have just found the 2 access panels at the bottom of the transmission. From the drivers side access panel I can see what looks like a fork going to some type of metal bar in the middle of the transmission.

How do you remove the fork and pressure plate? In addition are pressure plates painted green by the factory? I am assuming after I remove the pressure plate and clutch fork that the engine will seperate from the tranny will the tranny fall and crush my skull, and if so what ccan I do to prevent this.

pull the clutch slave off using a extension and a 12mm socket and then remove the inspection plate on the drivers side, and reach in and postion the fork so the bottom is pointing towards the slave hole, at this point give a tug on it or a good pull and it should pop off, you can re-install this way too.

best of luck!

you pull the fork with your hands. unbolt the pressure plate while it is in the tranny from each access panel. turn the crank with a 19mm on the front to get all the bolts 6 in total i think. then pry the tranny from the motor near the bottom of the block (carefully) slide the pressure plate as far into the tranny as you can on the shaft so it doesn't flop to the ground when they finally separate

So in the long run is it easier to pull the motor like this and leave the trans in the car? Or is the 49 steps listed in the tech section the way to go? How hard is that going to be to reinstall? I did not see a write up on installation with the trans in the car.

Is that your wiring harness still running across the firewall? Next time you pull the motor, disconnect the harness from the ECU, and pull it thru the firewall. It's much easier to disconnect everything out of the car.

And a tip that you could have used while taking the pressure plate loose is to use an extension and go through the slave cylinder hole. It lines up perfectly with the bolts and give you much better room to work than going thru the inspection panels where your ratchet has a short distance to work.
