I have a '87 supra auto, the tranny was toast when i bought it, so i just put in a tranny yesterday but the tranny i put in only had 3 of the four plugs comeing off of it!! after i got it in i tryed starting the car nothing happened, so i spliced 2 of the 4 wires on the engine side of the missing plug(i made a educated guess) and the car fired up but it wont go in gear. i tryed searching the forums for a answer but i came up empty :nono: anyone got any clues as to whats going on?

the shifter is hooked up and it clicks through gears, and i put oil in the tranny:icon_bigg

heres a link toa pic i found on the forums http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=112561
its the 4 wire square plug thats missing on the tranny.

"plenty of oil"???

Where is it reading on the dip stick with the car at operating temps with the engine running in park?

The trans "should" shift 100% on just the shifter even if everything is unplugged.

Usually if you put it in gear and it won't move it doesn't have enough Oil, these Auto's are fairly bombproof unless it's a million miles old or the screen is blocked solid they'll work.

we put a new filter in. the old one looked normal, had some very small particle in the screen no metal chunks and the magnet in the pan had a sludge film on it also no metal chunks. I was told at the auto parts store i need 1.9l of oil so i put 1 and half quarts to start off cause i didnt drain the torque converter when it was out. the guy i bought the car from wasnt very smart, and he lost the dipstick.... and the new tranny didnt come with one. so should i risk over filling it and put half a quart more in?

Welcome Dude!

There's no real way of knowing how much Oil came out when you dropped the pan as these things will keep dripping for a month after the pan is off!

A total dry fill can be around 5>8 litres.

Dipstick is the only way to accurately fill it.

Why can't you take the dipstick out of your old tranny?
