is the wing going to be mounted off the rear or off the hatch?
Not on the hatch, as it would break the carbon fiber deck. Its mounting flanges will be welded to the two plates (in the pics), and extending out four inches then two risers are bolted to the flanges raising the wing 12 inches above the hatch deck, so the wing gets more clean air.
Once it's done, there'll be a few pics.

okay good.. so its gonna be like the real GT cup cars in japan and europe..
I didn't know that was how they are set up... Phillip at VIP Performance is the design and fabrication guy at VIP, it was his doing. That makes me feel more like the car is in good hands after all. Thanks!

but heres a video, plus theres alot of others there too showing some of the other cars out there with the same set up.

These were helpful in me deciding to make a couple of design changes to the carbon wing risers VIP Performance is fabricating. The result will be a more professional fit and finish and less DIY looking.

The new design will hide all the bolts and mounting hardware and look more like this:

A design change was made and I ordered a custom wing from APR Performance a GT-250 Carbon wing 61" wide and 10" cord length with custom mounting to align with the rear bumper supports in the frame rail: photo 3.jpg
A plate will be welded that the aluminum risers will be bolted to, so that the risers will transfer more down force directly to the rear end of the car. The previous design would lose more force, having to transfer it through the rear hatch sheet metal.

Update pictures of progress so far... on the light weight body panels. Yes, the drivers side hood pin is slightly off because of a plate welded under the radiator cross brace, near the mounting point on that side. I'm good with the compromise.

This project has a deadline of 3/28/14, as the next day is the season opener at PIR with Cascade Sports Car Club.

This thread makes me so happy. Every time i read updates i feel the urge to work on my car even if it's just to fix little things.
I'm still looking for a shop in my area that can make me a front skid plate/under tray for my car.

Think about using poly carbonate in black. That's what I'm going with on my car's under cover. We're going to try to get it as parallel to the ground as we can.

For some reason, I didn't get notifications :(

Nice progress. Will you achieve on time before deadline? What is the remaining work?

How do you like front fenders? They are Duraflex right?

The car will be on the track by March 15th one way or the other... If that means that all the aero isn't complete, then so be it! The polycarbonate windows are a challenge, getting them right in the frames, as are the Duraflex parts, all requiring a lot of attention as I don't want the Supra to look like a Chump Car on the track, rather a well constructed track car.
The shop is very busy, so a lot of interruptions to the tech working on the car, so they have hired another two workers to cover the extra work.
I'll have more progress pics the week of March 5th.

I've registered for six track days at PIR; two each in March and May and one each in April and June. If the car is still intact come Sept, I'll do that month as well. I plan to make small incremental adjustments to the areo and suspension to tune the handling, and document what effects those adjustments have on the car during the year. I expect a lot of driving on wet track early in the year then some drier track conditions in June and Sept.
By the end of the year I will be a better driver.

The car is going to get a wrap like this: lotus1 wrap.jpg by PDX Wraps. It'll look like a three year old with a black crayon got a hold of it... :biglaugh: The wrap is planned for the end of the month of March. The carbon hood, hatch and wing aren't getting wrapped. Cost is $2K
