I am going to explain this the best I can it will prolly be hard to follow....

so after racing my car I parked it, then got in it,
put it in first, drove off, pushed in the clutch, and went to shift it out of gear and I heard this sound of grinding, it wasnt the sound it makes when you push it in gear, it was a deep metal sound, and at the same time I had my hand on the shifter pulling it out of first, but it was insanely hard to pull out of gear, but it wasnt like stuck in first, the entire shifter was solid would hardly move, but I pulled alittle harder and it seemed like it was forcing its way around in the transmission, so I then release the clutch, and re-engage it and it made a high pitched "pop" sound (like the sound if you were to tap a wrench on the ground)
and then it all went back to normal. so I got it into second and drove, I am worried as all hell at this point, so I double clutch it into 3rd, and as I am dirving in 3rd I hear this loud ticking/poping sound coming from the shifter, and I can also feel it verry strongly in the shifter, it felt like something was rotating and hitting the shifter, then the noise stopped, then I come up to a stop sign and put it in nuetral, and I sit there for a min. with the clutch in listening for noises, and it all seems ok, then all of the sudden that rotating poping sound and the shifter did it again... so I put it in first and drive off,
I drive about 2 miles with no problems, I was double clutching everygear and not accelorating hard at all, when I was driving it seemed like there was some noise coming from the shifter, and with my hand on it you can feel the noise, if that makes sense. this could also be just me worrying, It may have always been noisy, but it seemed to be just fine,
then when I parked I released the clutch and it was alot of noise coming from the tranny area.

sorry if that is hard to understand but that is the best way I can explain it.

what do you think would have caused the shift to be stuck like it was, and it wasnt stuck in gear, you couldnt move the shifter at all, unless you were pulling REALY hard on it, and it still barely moved, it was like something was in its way,

and then what would have caused that rotating poping sound/feel in the shifter?

the way I saw it was that I dont think the tranny is shot b/c I would think that if something broke in it, it would BE broke, it wouldnt just go back to normal, so I was thinking it must be clutch related, slave or master cylander

I dont know much about trannys and clutches and stuff,

and I need to get this figured out, I dont feel safe driving it around if this were to happen again

thanks for all your help

Sounds like you need to check your clutch slave and master cyl... and if those look to be in good shape, drop the trans and take a look at the clutch dic, pressure plate, flywheel, throw-out and pilot bearings.

When you say racing... dumping the clutch starting out? I know if you break those little springs on the clutch disc it will make one hell of a racket. :icon_bigg

yea I dumped the clutch a few times,
and the noise wasnt crazy loud, it my main concerns are that the shifter might get stuck again, and the crazy noise/feel coming from the shifter.

and a side note, I guessing my slave cylander isnt in the best shape b/c
I have had this problem with the clutch pedal since I bought the car,
the pedal sticks, it doesnt stick all the way to the floor like when the MC would go out, just the freeplay sticks, the pedal doesnt spring back up,
it hasnt given me anyproblems, but I was told that it was prolly the slave making the pedal stick like it is

how do I check if my slave is working?

If your dumpin the clutch, you better expect to develope some problems

my guess check shift linkage as to why it wouldnt come out of the gear

it was making noise as you were just sitting there not moving? i dont see why a busted manual trans would make noise if the car is not rolling forward. theres nothing in the trans that would be turning/moving if the car wasnt moving.

clutch on the other hand is always turning, even if the car is not moving. i'd be looking at the clutch system, master and slave cyl, pilot and release bearings.

but dont rule anything out.

Throw out bearing.
+1 to suprahooked.

I drove a Dodge Daytona w/ a bad throwout bearing. It make grinding noises in neutral, and every time I went to shift it, I'd let off the clutch, and once it engaged, it would make 2 *clunk* sounds.

The upside, is that they're arnt too bad to do. I think a shop quoted me around $200 to do it.

could it be the fork on your slave cylinder that's busted.. so you put your foot in on the clutch and it doesn't disengage the clutch to allow for you to shift...?? I had a cousin of mine break his clutch but in a way that it kept the fork open and it also made it hard to move and shift... he had to shift by feel... to minimise grind.. but I dont think he had all these popping sounds you are talking about.

Sounds a hell of a lot like the throwout assembly destroying itself...

Not just the bearing, but the hub, snaprings, ect...

Is the clutch stock, or has it been replaced? If it's been replaced, if it's done wrong in ANY way it WILL fail eventually.

Pull the inspection plates and see if the clutch fork has been grinding on the pressure plate. Check to see if the fulcrum for the clutch fork is in place right (had the bolts break...not good), and after that, pull the clutch for and reach in there and see how much play the assembly has.

It should have NO play in or out, a little side to side is normal, but the input shaft on the tranny shouldn't allow much.
