Exactly which wires do you have connected where?

i snipped the red/green wire on the f/L switch, and taped off the end going into the dash. i spliced the other end into the red/back wire from the cruise control switch (i also tried splicing it into the black/white wire from the defroster switch). :1zhelp:

next, i snipped the green/white wire coming from the F/L relay (the thing that clicks). This is where i get confused.:icon_conf after i cut this wire what exactly do i do with it? i have tried many different things, including taping off the dash side and connnecting the other end to the cigarette fuse. i have tried grounding the dash side and connecting the other end to the fuse. ive tried grounding the relay side and connecting the other end to the fuse. :icon_conf

i have tried so many combinations but i dont want to give up yet. :biglaugh: thanks for reading this!!! hecka props if u can help me out... HECKA. :icon_bigg

once you cut the green/white wire ground it from the relay side and your set.

thanks for responding. i have one final question so i dont blow any fuses: what set-up works in the switch panel? should i splicing the red/green f/l wire into the black/white defroster wire or the red/black cruis control wire?

sorry for the lamo question but i spent all of yesterday trying to do this, but without total success.

thanks...!

your choice, i used a relay, but before I'm pretty sure I had it on the cruise switch

this sucks... i have a new problem with the fog light re-rig.

i own an '88.

first off, i grounded the green/white wire coming out of the f/l relay, and hooked up the other end to the cig lighter fuse holder.

My problem seems to be situated in the switch panel.

Diagram of when the fog light wire is hooked up to the red/black cruise wire:
View attachment Fog-Cruise.bmp
WHAT GOES WRONG: i cannot turn the fog lights on independantly. when i turn them on in conjunction with the headlights, they go on fine, but when i turn them off, the headlights also go off.

Diagram of when the fog light wire is hooked up to the white/black defroster wire:
View attachment Fog-Defroster.bmp
WHAT GOES WRONG: The fog light switch simply controls the brights! the normal brights switch overrides the fog light switch, though.

if i can help you help me, just let me know. thanks for anything in advance.

LOL, Sorry, I misread..... Which position is your red/green, apparently in a couple cases they've been swapped.

i actually connnected it the the cig lighter fuse, so it could get a constant 12v when the ignition is on

thats what the splicing of the wire to the cruise was for, too much power and you'll blow the fuse.

Also, how on earth is your foglight switch controlling your headlights? You're not working with the wrong relay are you?

It's okay.... I was looking at the taillight relay at first. It's right above the fuse cluster and mine clicks when the fogs are turned on.

But.... that's not the right one. If it's near the hood release, you've got it.

The white green wire that goes into the relay socket needs to be connected to a ground... a bolt in the chassis is easiest, such as one on the bottom of the fuse cluster or the junction box next to it.

The side of the red/green wire going into the fog switch goes to a 12v source. If you want the fogs to only come on if the driving lights are on you can connect it to the green line going into the fog switch, if you want them to go on when the ignition is turned on (regardless of any other lights) use the appropriate switched line going to either defrost or cruise switches.

Okay, this is my first wiring job, to be honest, but so far, I've been following Darin's guide down to the teeth, and have ran into an issue.

install1wr5.jpg

Firstly, I followed Step 1 about perfectly, with only a small difference or two; instead of taping off the wire going back to the dash, I crimped it. I consider that better; I also ran the lead to the cig lighter fuse; I doubt it makes a difference. However, the issue I've ran into is here.

"2) RELAY : Locate the F/L relay. It is just behind the dashboard up and away from the fuse block. It clicks when the fog lights are turned on. Locate wire #1 (red/yellow) It will test at a constant 12volts. leaving enough wire to splice with, cut the wire, and tape off the dash side. Attach a splice / lead to the relay side, and connect it to a wire or fuse that is 12v when the lights are switched on. ( I used the bottom side of the Tail fuse). Locate wire #2 (white/green) cut this wire the same way, but attach your lead from the relay to a known ground. (There is a large screw very close to the relay that works perfect.)"

install2ni4.jpg

When I looked for the white/green wire, I found two! To add to the confusion, they're both connected to the same pin. What should I do here? Ground both sides on one end and crimp the other ends off? Run the wires together? I know I probably look like an idiot asking this, but it is my first car wiring job, and I'd rather measure twice and cut once [sort to speak] then to be left with a clusterfuck that I wouldn't even be able to put back together the original way.
