so i finally had finished my car's work ( hoses, new valve cover caskets, etc...) kinda some much needed TLC... i have it for a day and the power steering suddenly goes as im driving it... so i drive home with now help from P/S.
I get home and smoke is coming out... i thought it was some dexron that had gotten on to the block when i had spilled some to replace the hoses on the resevoir... SO TODAY.. i take it all apart try to move the hoses around bc it looked like the big hose on the bottom of the resevoir looked like a straw being sucked on wen ur finger is on the top.. if u know wat i mean. When you turn the engine on the pump looks like its sucking it but it just sucks the hose shut. So i go for a test drive hoping maybe it just needs to cycle the fluid to kick in ... i get home and MORE FRIGGIN SMOKE... the hose is still being sucked in and im guessing the smoke is from the pump trying to suck but there is something stopping it... PLEASE IF ANYONE KNOWS ANYTHING HELP ME OUT.

just some more info.. i replaced the hose from the resevoir to the pump as well, but now im wondering , is that a high pressure hose that needs to be special ordered from toyota... or can a normal hose work.. bc like i said before it looks pinched bc the motor is sucking it shut.... and the filter screen i could see through ... i cleaned that and... UGH i so sick of this P/S crap

im not the one who bought them... my dad did but he is no fool when it comes to automobiles... and he didnt get them at home depot he bought them at an auto parts store .. so im guessing confidently that it is oil and temp resistant. its just very odd how wen the pump goes on the hose crushes basically

Thats pretty big... yea. It would indicate to me that there is some kind of VERY stubborn blockage in one of the lines or even the rack.

What I would do is go through the hoses one by one and see where it stops being able to pump any fluid through.

Also, can you see the fluid moving in the reservoir with the cap off when the engine runs?

yea... i took the cap off before... no diff... and also i know there must be some blockage because i CANT see the movement... but i dont know where to look.. the two hoses off the resevoir are brand new so they are fine.. it must be some where else but i dont know how to figure it out. ive been workin on it all day...
lol sign of a true MKIII owner... never gets a break:1zhelp:

Agreed, start by getting a new hose from Toyota, that way you'll eliminate the chance that it is collapsing just because its being used in the wrong application.

I didn't actually realize that this was not happening before you replaced it.

Interesting thread. Time to head on down to the hardware store for a spring. Crude, but effective ;)
ok... should i just go for the part from toyota? but i mean my guess after effing 9 hours of this... is that its just the hose is not strong enough.. so ill give the spring a try or go to the toyota dealership for the right part... ill keep u guys updated just incase some else ever has this problem
