power seat back rake problem

OK, so it's not a BHG (thank goodness!), but this is becoming a PITA anyway...

The driver's seat on the '92 seems to have slipped some teeth in the seatback
rake adjustment. At full forward it won't get me to "granny" style straight up
and down like it used to - even though I don't drive like that anyway. My wife,
on the other hand, is another subject. She is one of those drivers that you
swear would have any SRS deployment put a hole right between her "infant
survival glands" :naughty: .

At best, the seat comes about 15-20 degrees short of 90 degrees vertical. So,
with the seat not going vertical - or even close - keeps her from wanting to
drive it. Not a bad thing, in some circles, but.... Besides, I don't have the
thumping stereo or music on hand to drive like a banger all the time..... :2ar15:

At the other extreme, full recline puts some major dents in the rear seat's
leather - much more than I remember from my previous power naps on the road, and
I have yet to be brave enough to force it to full recline for fear of puncturing
some leather back there. So I assume some kind of gear slippage.

Anyone had this problem before? Any thoughts on a solution short of
removing/disassembling the seat mechanism?

I had a similar problem when I first bought my car. I couldn't adjust the seat backs' vertical postion manually. I took the seat out to investigate, finding that the seat back is adjustable with an electrical switch (it had broken off, I had to repair it). The manual 'adjustment' is only there to fold the seat forward to let someone get out of the back seat.
