No question about it. If one has the money and wherewithall to do it "right" and actually restore the car well, it would be a neat project. I'd think you should pick it up for closer to a grand. If you consider what it costs to buy a rough "muscle car" these days, it's a real bargain, but neither does it have the intrinsic value as a restoration that muscle cars have... YET. Give it a dozen or so more years, and properly restored and KEPT in good shape, it'd be a decent gamble that you'd pull down some good recognition and POSSIBLY value on the return for your efforts!
Other than that, you'd have to love these early Japanese sport cars for what they are as a relative purest yourself.
I still wish I had my FIRST Supra, which was a fantastic 227k mile '84 in BLACK that I drove the living crap out of! STILL ran great when I finally sold it. If I could get a REALLY clean (no rust) body of one of those again... I'd love to do one!
