Shit I've had this car now for 4 days and I only got 5 pulls on the dyno and 1 race in a guy in a 7-series bmw (killed him of course) but my tranny is dead...

411rwhp, 390tq .... on a JDM A340E, fresh fluids, BIG giant cooler --- lasted 4 days :(

I priced out the IPT fully built auto tranny and with converter, shipping and everything its like $4200... Since there are so few other options out there, and I don't want to keep rebuilding (gambling) $3000+ trannys every 6 mo or whatever, I've decided to go 5-SPD after all :3d_frown:

My differential is toast too! That turbo blew the hell out of my drivetrain... Jaswgear is hookin me up there tho, Jeff's a really cool guy, I got a fully built diff coming + 1pc AL driveshaft...

So anyhow, what's the best clutch out there now? I guess I can get a short-throwing shifter too and a cool TRD knob :) I got a lot of research and shopping to do! :)

That sucks, it happened to me too. Let me know if you're looking for a swap package, I *should* have one very soon.

As for the clutch, the Spec III's gets rave reviews. That is the route I'm going, but research is your best friend.

let me know how it goes, well, the short shifter... always just seems that the huge shifter feels right at home, wait what am i sayin, have you driven a manual mk3 before?... too bad you don't want an auto tranny tho :-/

Wow. 400+ ponies on a stock a340e. I'm surprised you didn't blow it on the first pull.

actually on the 2nd pull we made 491hp by accident (26psi on pump gas) ... we later tuned it and got it settled at 411hp @ 16psi.

I've had this car for 12 yrs, been through several auto trannies (stock engine though).... when they slipped it took weeks or months to die.... this time I literaly felt it barely slipping the night before (and the differential was whining kind of loud). The next day it seemed OK but was slipping slightly more... so i drove it to the shop to have them look at it, and after 20 mins on the highway, I got off and in the city at the first stop light I completely lost 1st gear. I barely made it to their shop.

Nothing was shimmed or modified in the stock tranny except I had a very big tranny cooler mounted under the drivers headlight area.

I have all the parts I need for a swap, I just need to do my research now and find out what the best components are so I don't keep breaking stuff.

I'm leaning towards the HPF Feramic 6-puck or the Spec Stage 3, and maybe the SouthBend Pressure Plate (for more holding power without putting more pedal stiffness). Still seeing what other options there are out there.

actually i've never driven a 5-spd supra before so it will be interesting.... my daily driver right now is a 2001 honda inight (hybrid) 5-spd that's slow as hell so the transition will be nice :evil2:

but i did like the idea of having the supra as my "old man cruising around car" with 500hp LOL .... oh well... all the wiring and everything is intact and I can always switch back later on, and I may just do that in a couple years, get a TH400+O/D kit, etc... but I can't afford that setup now which would be in the $6-8k range.

Couldn't be happier with my C's short shifter ... well for the hundred miles or so that I actually got to use it !! :nono:

It didn't seem to be any smaller than the stock "huge" shifter - but the 'throw' is SOO much nicer ... it's gotta be one of my favorite mods so far!

Allrighty well I ordered the RPS Pressure Plate and the HPF 6-puck Feramic Clutch.... that should hold her :)

I'll see how I like the tonka-truck shifter... and I may switch to the short throw one later ;)

keep it? i'm not sure actually... I take it that it's not needed for a manual transmission? I may use it as an oil cooler instead if it's compatible. If I have no use for it, I'll let you know. There were SS-braided lines made for it to match the A340E as well. They bring the hot fluid from the tranny to the cooler for nice cold oil, and then to the radiator to be brought up to proper operating temperature because the tranny oil can't be too cold, and then of course back to the tranny. So if nothing else maybe I can sell off the lines.

If you're interested in the lines only, let me know... just get a new oil cooler from summit for $80 and you'd be in business.

No I had a tuner shop that specializes in imports make them for me. The owner and the mechanic that worked on my car have both built up a lot of powerful supras, and they've owned them as well.

i think he's running the same pp+clutch that i just bought.... i bought it based on HPF's recommendation... except he had a lightweight flywheel and is switching back to stock... and that's why i didn't buy an aftermarket flywheel :)

edit: correction he's running the hpf full face feramic and is swithing to the 6-puck feramic.
