um... the 280 has an electric compressor on the left side of the engine...

bonus points for anyone that can tell me what it's for :biglaugh:

Do you mean air compressor or blower motor? The 280 I had had a blower motor blowing air onto the injectors to keep them cool. Ford 300 sixes have the same setup to cool the injectors.

I have 2 Z31 turbos, an 87 and an 89 and the airflow setup is horrid. They don't even have an intercooler and the 88-90 use a T25 turbo at 4 psi. The 87 uses a T3 at 6.5 psi but the turbo is tucked behind the motor mount so the intake pipe does a tight s-curve right at the turbo inlet. The VG30 engine is a solid plant which has been used for a long time but performance upgrades for the Z31 at least are a build-your-own affair. So if he gets a Z13 and wants to upgrade, let me know. I have built a few helpful upgrades for the intake and exhaust.:naughty:

Yeah, they look 80's but with T-Tops and a turbo they can still be fun.:biglaugh:

Are the Z31's as unloved as the mk3's are compared to the mk4's?

Your friend should get a Ford Maverick and drop a 302 with a 9" rear end, some 4.10 gears and a 100 shot of nitrous. Nobody will suspect a Maverick. To hell with the Z car!

There are plenty of cars without cross-flow heads. Toyota 3A and 4A are good examples as well.
of course... many were great motors as well, as in, they ran forever... not very efficient though

I think the Z32's are awesome looking cars. My friend has a 450 HP TT. The biggest things I can remember about them is the back two spark plugs are a bitch to get to if they need changed or gapped. And the Alternators pretty commonly fail...I think they have some electrical gremlins of a few sorts. But definitely nice cars!!!

Correct sir! We have a z32 and it has gone through 2 alternators. Both of them were making juice just fine but the regulator went and well it took ALL the lights with it. Head, turn, high, tail, markers......gone. Glad it didn't fry the ECU with it. There are some quarks about the car, to align the camber you will need a kit for it. Steering wheel does NOT move. The seats SUCK compared to the MKIII seats. They just are not as aggressive. The car has been fairly reliable but there are issues with plastics. If you take it apart they do like to break, they are not as strong as other cars. We went through alot of epoxy fixing screw mounts on the dash, door panels, and rear panels. Also I have heard the automatic transmission is crap...dunno if that is just for n/a's or tt's or both. I just know alot of them fail I am just not sure on which model if not both. Working on the car is a total nightmare everything is built around everything. Just to get the heater box out we had to pull the ac box out, the fan box out and remove the ecu and some other shit for that to even get out. But like I said, the car has it quarks, it's just down to if the car is enough fun to go through stuff like that and the answer here is yes. It is an amazing machine.

Yeah, except for the crew at Z31.com. Those guys are performance fanatics who hate rice. Some guy posted there as ZXricer and they flamed him till no ash was left. It was a little frightening.

That's what I thought. Some tard in a 280 pulled in at the DQ when I had mine and started talking shit with me. He said his was turbo and then showed me that blower for the injectors. I almost laughed in his face but instead acted all surprised and told him mine was turbo too and I never realized it! He thought he was tuner god for sure.
