Hi, I have an 89 hardtop turbo with the mods listed below. Mechanically the car is in perfect shape and I'm about to install a new RPS clutch, fidanza flywheel, and a metal head gasket. The car runs great but I'd like to still get some more power out of it.....basically I need a project. Aside from a 1jz or 2jz swap, what would you do?

I was considering an upgraded turbo but I don't want anything too laggy, maybe just a CT26 upgrade (57 trim maybe?). I would also be installing a walbro 255 fuel pump if I upgrade the turbo.

What about a larger throttle body?

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated as I'm still learning more about this car.

18" Volk SF Challenge wheels 10" rear and 9" front
Eibach Pro springs with Tokico gas shocks.
Defcon downpipe with Greddy EGT probe
HKS Drager cat back exhaust with Random Tech 3" hi-flo cat.
Blitz dual solenoid boost controller.
HKS Sequential blow-off valve.
Spearco intercooler
RC 550 injectors + Lexus AFM
Greddy electronic fuel pressure guage.
Short throw shifter
FJO Air/Fuel ratio computer monitor with 5 wire O2 sensor.

Thanks!

A larger throttle body, would be a waste of tim, not to mention I think the only larger TB on the market as for "bolt on" of the 7MGTE is a turbo-A TB. Witch would be very hard to source.
I would start looking into a turbo upgrade if I were you. See how much money you have and go from there on what turbo to buy.

Also I am sure you forgot to list it, but add a free flowing air filter ;)

AEM intake is a plus, but i only upgrade intakes when i upgrade turbos.

its worth addressing the headgasket thats for sure. and if you have extra time+money i would build the engine. then its a matter of upgraded turbo, FFIM is never a bad thing, cams , not sure if you have full hardpipes but they seems to help.

Whoops, forgot to add the air filter. I have a HKS mega filter. From what I hear it's one of the worst filters out there so I may swicth it to a K&N or Apex.

I'm looking to spend up to a max. of around $1000 so a ct26 upgrade would be in my price range.

Thanks for the reply!

For filters, AEM Dry Flo FTW. K&N/HKS = lame. (Go read up about it)
Agreed. Does the Defcon DP have an integrated elbow on the top, or are you still using the stock turbo elbow? If so, that thing has to go.

I'd probably go:
- Walbro fuel pump, aeromotive FPR, and some braided lines to replace the stockers & J-tube
- BIC DDP
- intercooler hardpipes
- Upgraded CT, 57 trim

What are your HP goals? I would say while you have the motor apart and your doing the MHG, put in a set of cams like the crower 264's that are mild enough to keep it streetable, but a lobe big enough to add some extra HP. You can also use the stock springs and retainers with the 264 cams, but most people upgrade their springs and retainers so that they dont float a valve on the top end. Cams and a spring retainer kit will run you about 900 with shipping but that is not including the new shims your going to need for the springs. Im also hoping that with the MHG your going to put in some ARP head studs.

Thanks for all the answers guys. I've definitely been looking at a 57 trim turbo but I want to install the MHG and ARP studs first. I'm not really sure of what my horsepower goals are, I just want the car to be a bit quicker....I've been trying to book a baseline dyno run in my city for weeks and still no luck. I just want to know where my car is at already as far as power goes. I think 50-75 hp over what the car has now would be great.

So for the moment I'm thinking:

- replace the mushroom HKS filter with something better like an AEM.
- MHG with ARP studs
- RPS clutch and Fidanza flywheel
- CT26 (57 trim)
- walbro 255 fuel pump with fpr

By the way, what is a BIC DDP? Sorry.
