First off this is my very first thread. I'm fairly new to supras, though supras have been in my family for the past 15 years; From mk1s, mk2s, and MK3s. I toasted :1zhelp:my oringinal 7mgte with 17x,xxx miles. I know its about that time. I haven't been temp to engage into modifying or tuning in supras because of the headaches and cooling issues with them. I just thought that if It runs stock now with no problems.... DON'T FAWK WITH IT. I had my play times around DSMs. please don't flame me. They are as capable and come with their own issues and I was more fimiliar with the 4g63 at the time. I have since gotten rid of all my DSMs and look forward to building my dream MK3.

Long story short, my questions is that.... I have been researching and reading alot between the two motors. 7MGTE and 1JZTTE. My question Is; rebuild what I have now (7M) or go for the 1JZ swap. Every MK3 owner out there have his or her own different views. I would appreciate every bit of more info. My car is a 91 Toyota Supra Turbo Targa. Again.... I want daily with a punch. One that would drop most zo6 owners jaw. I live in California, but I'm not too afraid of smog. So any help will be nice.

Thanks... T.J:icon_razz

7M is the way to go. If they are built right and maintained right they are damn good engines! Good luck and welcome!

When I was building my sup I was wondering and asking my self the same question. 7m or 1jz. I went with a built 7m, and here is why. Once I added up the cost and time needed to swap in the 1jz, and not to mention all the "little things" needed it was cheaper for me to fully build my 7M. If I need parts I can go down to any local parts store or toyota to get them. Plus this way I have a new engine built the way I want it, compaired to something that has 70K+ miles and who knows how old it is and how knows how it was taking care of.

Plus the 7m wil be smog friendly ;)

I agree the 7M is a better way to go financially. There is no viable reason to waste money trying to get a 1JZ just right when you already have a decent motor. Just be aware of the HG issues. I have no cooling issues at 70K on my 86. No HG or cam issues either. Heard from a former Toy tech that cams tend to go at 60K, but last forever if they pass that mark. It's always easier to work with what you have than try to put something else in.

id go with the 7m way cheaper ,and easier to get new parts, but it is 50 hp shy of the 1jz. however since the 7m has bigger displacement on paper its better in the long run for big hp build.

I need to know if theres anyone in the Local Sacramento or SF area that can leand me a hand. I need a reputable shop for the rebuild, or someone who is willing to make extra money on my build. I will supply the parts and just need labor done. Any MK3 owners with input would be greatly appreciated. I just don't have the time. Or i can buy a rebuilt motor off your hands.... must be able to handle at least 15psi or 17psi at one point. I would at least like to push the car alittle more. Please any help would be nice. Thanks.:aigo:
