what's the flange size for the stock 7mge exhaust? i'd like to try and weld a test pipe with a section of pipe from advance auto, but can't find any flanges to bolt up to the exhaust. i've looked at a few muffler shops around here and noone is interested in selling me flanges, or can even find the flange size in their books. also looked at the junkyard but their scrap collection had just been shipped out for the week. i've got a few stock aw11 mr2 exhaust flanges but i'm thinking they might be a bit small. anyone know what the size is or where to get some?

in short, i need:

size of stock 7mge exhaust flanges
size of stock 7mge exhaust
location to get flanges

thanks!

Turbo and Na have different diameter exhaust. Wouldnt that mean the turbo flanges wouldnt work?

I asked the the guy from BIC if his test pipe would work. He said it would bolt up but likely leak, as the diameters are different.

Well you get the test pipe to match up the diameter of your exhaust and you should be good.

To do that wouldnt you need flanges the correct size? Wouldnt be easiest to get an old na cat and cut the flanges off that?

Why are you leaving the stock exhaust but adding a test pipe?

1. practice my welding :)
2. help the flow a little bit (don't really have emissions here)
3. if this works, the rest of the exhaust won't be stock for long

seat of the pants rennat.

my g/f has the stock cat from her mr2 so im either going to cut the flanges off of that, or if it's the same size as the NA cat (hopefully) i'll gut it and sell the insides for scrap.

after that it's pretty much what my bank account wants me to do. i'm going no bigger than 2.5 inch, but have no clue as to what muffler i want to use or when i'll get the chance.

what are you going for?

3" flanges on the N/A cat. I used the flanges off the old cat, and welded a piece of 3" exhaust pipe in. Just marked it all out so I had the flange angles right.

:) something about me hates to ruin my stocker, from some pics ive seen the mr2 cat looks the same size as the mk3 cat. this true?

wait, wouldnt the first half of that sentence suggest i use the welder (get flanges and make my own test pipe) and the second part suggest i don't use the welder? is there something i have to weld after gutting the cat (sleeve inside?)

You could weld a piece of 2 1/2" or so inside the gutted cat so it looks stock. WOuld probably flow and sound better as well.

hm. could do that, or i could slice a cat in half and tack the front/bottom (however you wanna view it) onto my test pipe so a quick inspection looks like a cat's still there
