Well my clip has finally arived today - Oct-20-2006

I will have some pictures up at some point

My plan at this time is just to get a basic setup it and maybe a few little things like a Koyo rad and posibly a Y-Pipe.

Something i did not realize when i looked at the clip before, but the Cruise control has been removed and i am not sure if some things might be missing then. Let hope not :(

Also the little vavle next to what looks like the BOV is broken :( i am going to look into replacing it with a aftermarket one like the HKS SSQV in the same spot if posible.

I am a little rushed in doing this install since i need the car back up and running again.so i wont be able to take my sweet time.

I am doing this on my own at the moment. I am not the best person with wiring so this should be fun...LOL

added info: Oct-21-2006

Well some info about the clip. I know the engine is a 1st gen 1JZ so my guess is my clip is of an 89 posibly a early 90. It has the MOMO steering wheel that came with it and the bilstien shocks, from the 2.5 twin turbo R. I have realized that the car was not one originally. There is no cruise control on the steering collom. meaning to me. That is was on the steering wheel but no more.

The clip has 55,000 KM on it i think thats about 35,000 Miles. all the intake piping is dry as a bone. No oil residue whats so ever :) I have alreay taken a few things apart just in the excitment of getting the clip but the documentation will be gin today\

i also have switched out the Tach from the 1J to my gauge cluster. From what i have read i think it should work. I did have to exchange the clear plaster it was attached to for the back light. It better work since i broke my original tach in doing this. It was my mistake. you can do it with out breaking anything.

It was pretty strait forward. Thier are just allot of screws to keep track of where they go since it's all plastic and you dont want to put a screw back into a different hole. I did connect the three screws on one side at the back. On the other side of the tach though. You can not attached both screws through the copper holes since the 1J tach uses different holes only one lines up. I attached that one as well thinking i would need it. Lets hope so.

at the end of everything i will compile all the steps i took and info in a more orginized fasion so that it is easy to read and undersand.

I know someone that is thinking about going 1JayZ also................:biglaugh:

I'll get to check my car out tomorrow and pinpoint the knocking I've been hearing. I will report back as soon as I find out what it is...............lol

Soup, that 1JayZ is pretty cool. Josh, I hope your build goes smoothly for you. I think you will get all the help you need from here. At least on questions and answers. Maybe not wrench turning help, but answers and moral support....................good luck.

Brewster: Oh for sure that PCV vavle is one of the first things on my list LOL

suprahero: i will try and do a good job of documentation. I have liked allot of the sites and info i have seen. but allot of it is not writien for someone that does not knoe everything about supras down to the last bolt. I think even the less knowledgable like my self should be given access to the great wide wonders that are 1JZ.

da89soup: good now send me money....LOL maybe i should hold my build info for ransom.

Thanks to everyone for the support on this. It is getting pretty chilly out side so all the support i can get would be great. I know i will have allot of questions.

Like, what in that engine bay must come with the 1JZ and what is just non-sensicle crap that i don't need to clean things up.

What have people down with that vent line that went to the charcol canister?

Once my Computer is back up and running i will be able to show everyone where i am purchasing my parts, and what parts. I'll try to give reason behind the thinking so other people can understand why they would want to do that or not.

I put a littl emore information in my first post about the clip

well today progress was slow going but here are a few pictures and a bit of what i did.

i will have thumbnails in the future just my computer is down ATM. don't ask!

Mostly prep work still as i need to finish emptying out my engine bay.

Still have allot to take out as you can see.

So far i have the bumper cover off, the intercooler out and the oil cooler. The Cruise control and a few other odds and ends that i don't think i will need.

i took a further look at the 1JZ and realized i have a smashed up intake pipe from the turbos to my IC...DOH.....guess it's time to find some new pipes....hehehehe:evil2: mmmm Stainless steel. Got to see who makes a kit. maybe a whole kit for intake pipe and then IC pipes as well. Hopfully for not a rip off price either.

I also pulled the plugs and took off various other intake pipes all which were bone dry inside no oil residue what so ever. the spark plugs looked fine as well. the clip still had the original head lamps from toyota in it. Or so it seemed.

I took a picture of the oddometer from the clip just for the hell of it.

the important stuff

the bumper cover: If you are going to remove the bumper be prepaired to disasemble most everything you see on the front end.

Thier are a ton of bolts holding it on.

From a row infront of the intercooler, to others behind the fog light wich have to be romoved. Then there are two more on either side with the quarter panel. I found taking aprart some of the plastic around the wheel well help with accessing those. Plus some of thats got to come anyways. Finaly there are a few nuts that need to be unbolted on the inside of the bumper you can feel them with your hands if you can reach up or if you take a look after removing the turn signals. The hardest bolt to deal with by far is at the far most end of the cover right whre the bumper cover meets the begining of the wheel well and the top. I suggest a long Socket extention and a swivel joint to make life simple.

Removing the oil cooler and IC is pretty strait forward. just piping and a bunch of obvious bolts.

i am not sure if you can use the Cruise control that is already there on the 1JZ. I looked at it quickly and it looks as if the cable would reach fine. I am unsure if the rest of it needed to make it function would work though. I took mine out and the clip i got did not have the CC in it.

i also noticed that the Cam covers are still held down with those pathetic srews and washers with rubber. I will be swaping those out for some nice allen head stuff. I will see if the thread is the same as the screws for the 7M cam covers.

it's decided. I am going to use the Bilstien shocks that came with the car. For to long have i had the car sitting on its shocks idle. Plus i thought they were going long ago. with 55,000KM i figure these Bilstien shocks should be in good shape. Just hope they will perform ok with the H&R springs i have

O.K. Josh, I'm giving you about a two weeks head start. Hopefully I don't catch up to you. That way I can learn from your experience, and hopefully not from any screw ups. I hope it goes well for both of us. I am ordering mine tonight. I don't know how long it will take to get here. I'm going to start working on pulling some of my parts Monday.

Are you getting the Koyo racing radiator? I'm going to order one off of ebay pretty soon.............lol

Might as well grab that ypipe while the engine is out. you're not gonna wanna do it once the engine is in the car. :[

werd, even with the motor out, it's a PITA. I don't see how it can be done with the motor in...

Hey Josh, I don't know if you're getting the Koyo racing radiator, but I just bought one off of ebay for $369.00 tax title and delivered. Just thought you should know. I'm not buying the downpipe, because Aaron is making a manifold right now that will let me use my new Garrett t04e. It will hopefully be done in about two or three weeks. Keep me posted on any helpful hints you run across.............lol
