It was likely dual MKIV ignitors, in an effort to run a C.O.P. setup using 1jz coils. bigaaron made it work that way, if I remember correctly.

However, that's only an alternative to the stock coils. There are other ignition enhancing units out there that work on our cars, but it really depends on what you're looking for.
