I have been told to shift at 5600 when wanting to go fast, any higher is the risk of blowing up the motor, but is anyone shifting higher than that? I have an 89 turbo, the only mods I have is a blitz bov, bic ddp, hi-flow cat, 3" super dragger, intake, and just replaced the hg with a titan mhg so that won't go bad for a while. I want to get the most out of every gear w/o blowing up or shifting too early. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks

redline..?

(6500 for 86.5-89, 6250 for 89-92)

fuel cut..?

really depends on the health of your engine, if it has a shit load of miles I wouldn't recommend beating on the damn thing, if you're fully built and have the supporting internal mods, you can rev the damn thing to way past redline (like IJ) safely..

It has 164k miles, planning on rebuilding sometime couldn't tell you when. The engine is pretty healthy I have done all of the maitenence. I think it will be safe to shift at about 6, it still wants to pull when I hit 5500, Since there is no rev limiter I was told to shift at 5600 when redlines not till 6500.. Upgrading to a 57trim ct26 next month along with a walbro or mk4 fuel pump and a few other mods.

+1 to this.

I plan on doing that, and sticking a shift light to my pillar pod. Though I doubt I'll be making use of it very often.

Haha I learned this quite a few times when fighting traction in 1st and 2nd.

HP drops off around 5600 but nothing wrong with revving past to get closer to peak power for the next gear. I shift as high as I can before fuel cut or rev limiter.

red line is their for a reason . just dont do it all the time, should be fine. but def dyno it and calculate shift points from there should be slightly different every gear. the goal is to shift from max hp in one gear to max tq in the next, whell in a perfect world anyway.

With my stock turbo I shifted ~ 5700.. If I went higher the car actually went slower (trap speed).
