thats so true.. i have had state patrol pull up to me and tell me to pick up the pace when i was already doing 5 over the speed limit on I-5 just to keep the flow going... and here in town they are finally ticketing people who drive under the speed limit...

^That was a trip...I bet they pissed off a lot of people. I wonder if the news caught on or anybody important (could make a change) got to see it.

going down to tacoma i had to floor it to keep up with traffic that was averaging about 75 to 80 on a stretch of highway that had just been scuffed up for repaving, i was just going "oh shit oh shit oh shit" the whole way cus the car was bouncing arround so much taking a beating.

O man, i would be so pissed if that happened to me. I can't get stuck with a bunch of cars around me. I dont kno why. But I need to have an open lane for at least 200 yards. And I always do 70-80 mph on highways with no problems with police or highway patrol. The only time i got pulled over for speeding was because i was doing 95 in a 70 in my truck. And i was like, "Officer, i dont know how fast i was going because my speedometer only goes to 85."

Amazing but no surprise!

Here the powers that be have decided a 3% margin for error is a good thing as it allows the speed cameras to raise more money!

110 kph ok 113.3 busted! never mind the Australian design rules for speedo accuracy is a 10% error.....

 Same thing happened while I was in my friends Cadillac, the speedo went to 75 and the needle was stuck at 75 and we were still getting passed. He got pulled over in that thing and the cop claimed he was doing 95- he said "Officer I truly don't know my speed, but I have faith this boat can't go 95..."

Yep they showed that on World News Tonight about 4 days ago. That would be an interesting topic to do a research project on.

They did a test like this on 60 minutes like 10 years ago but only had 1 car. I had to watch it as part of driving school. Turned out that the car they used to show an angry tailgater was a MKIII. haha.

Every year when I head to Vegas on I-5 I will regularly be traveling a tad above the speed limit but it is VERY hard to do when you have huge SUVs flying past you at 90+mph in a 70.

Oh man, I fuckin saw that already! That van clipped the disabled car as he tried to pass in the breakdown lane... crazy shit was happening.

I especially liked the bridge view as there were 3 cars on the highway, then this wall of traffic appeared.. too damn funny!

i want to retract my previous statement, speedlimits in urban areas are very important, school zones..traffic lights etc certainly need a slower speed,

remember that thread with all the highway traffic safety information posted before the hack? showing how the faster traffic moves the safer it is?

anywho i tend to try and move up through traffic no matter the collective speed, my reasoning is this, most people (yeah right) will try to drive defensivly, well my defense is my offensive driving, If i'm passing most everybody there's nobody i'm following to worry about smashing into. However I do the majority of my driving on a 4 lane highway, (2 lanes either way) so my comparison isn't exactly accurate for most folks.

A local radio station did something like that... had every lane of I-465 around Indy going at the posted speeds, The news just said that there was a "massive slow down, but the cause was unknown" lol It's not uncommon to be doing 70 in a 50 and have cars FLY by you. Normally when I did that it was on a 2 lane highway and we atleast went 5 over. Didn't see the vid since I'm at work, but I'm sure it was awesome.

Lanky, you're the coolest.

Hmm, wonder why the autobon (sp) is supposedly safer than the US highways? Although it is highly patrolled and well regulated, talk about doubling our speed limits but yet lowering fatalities.

I know that *I* for one find myself driving a lot better at high speeds. I haven't been up past 100mph for a few years now, but I remember keeping the car straighter at 100+mph than at 50mph. Don't know if it was the steering in my Supra, but the faster she went, the tighter the steering and the easier it was to control.

Only thing that worries me about being the lead car is I KNOW I can stop but am pretty sure most of the lemmings behind can't if we all have to!

(Been rear ended twice and both times saw it coming and tried to escape)

I don't think the speed limit was set to 55 mph for safety reasons. It was to conserve fuel during the fuel shortages of the 70's and early 80's. You use WAY less fuel at 55 mph than you do at 75 mph. That's the reason for the speed limit.
