On my way home tonight I ran into a MK3 Golf VR6 on the freeway, he had already passed me to get in front of me on the on ramp I decide to play with him. I pull up next to him and give the driver a nod he downshifts and gave me a smirk (he must know something i didnt), and we wait for for the two cars in front of us to exit. At 65mph I was about to honk it off but he decided to go and I promptly went WOT hitting fuel cut 3-4 times until it finally maintained 12lbs i look to my left and he still there and at this point im thinking "got damn" 80mph comes then 100 and hes still there finally by 115 i start to walk away i let off at 125. I was at this point a car or so ahead. He got off at the next exit and i ran into traffic which pretty much ruined my chances of talking to the guy. I wanna know what was done to that thing.

I had a VW friend tell me that apparently those VR6 are quite fast with bolt ons and a chip. Anyone have any experience with these?

My mods
Intake
Exhaust
No Cat
20G @ 12psi
Lower IC hardpipe

His car had from what i can tell and hear a Intake and an Exhaust. I want to assume and hope it had more done to it cause that thing was quick. Considering others cars ive beaten before.

TD06-20g on your car? I'm surprised he kept up that well... good for him, but you still took it. :)

TD06-20g are a pretty decent sized turbo, it's the TD05 that are that small ones.

maybe he had the g60 supercharged vr6 motor in it from a carrado i recently tangled with a vr6 but it was the much heavier 2003 body style he kept up with tell a 110 but he had no forced induction so maybe this one was at any rate congrats

G60 carrados were supercharged 1.8 4 cylinders

Found out what was done to the VR6 it had full bolt ons, chip, and a 100 shot. Im kinda surprised now that it feels like it was me holding my own.

He kept up because you hit fuel cut 3 or 4 times.
That's a HUGE disadvantage. Sounds like a big turbo and no fuel/ air mods is what's limiting you.

As a rule, coming from a VW background (having owned several hotrodded VW's, including a Scirocco, a Corrado and a 1971 VW Bug pushing 365whp), VW's 4 and 6 cylinder engines always respond REALLY well to basic bolt ons and a chip. Forced induction continues the trend.

My father used to run a MKII GTI with no more than a pair of Weber side drafts, a cam and a header and exhaust. That damn thing was scary!

sounds like you need bigger injectors, but those vw's are quick, my friend has one and its a v6 twin turbo awd, very similar to a mitsubishi just smaller so people definately underestimate them, with tuning and bpu mod's they can keep up with jap cars very easily, if they upgrade the turbos your in trouble.
