I should have called it ECU and not CPU in the title. Figured I'd throw that in there before someone corrects me...

So I began tearing apart my '87 Turbo today and ran across a curious part. They guy I bought the car from had already done a lot of mods and when I took the CPU out the top of it was raised. I imagine this is one of the old school upgraded CPU's but I'm not sure. I did notice that even with 550 injectors I could set the SAFC to all 0's (no adding or subtracting of fuel) and my AFR's were normal (14.7-14.9 cruising). Were there any companies that upgraded our CPU's or would this have to have been a custom job by the previous owner?

I've gotta go pull an ecu out of my garage, but off the top of my head I'd say there looks to be some work done on your ecu on the top half right in the center and going up, and then again on the right side where there appears to be some white glue stick goo.

It's been a while since I looked inside one but I don't remember it looking quite like that when opened up.

I see that the top has been extended so it sits up making more interior clearance, is there anything that obviously needs that clearance to fit? I would guess that would be your likely candidate for previous modification.

Thanks guys. I figured it was but don't know that much about ECU's. How common are these and are they worth much more than a stock ECU? If it's set up for 550's, how big of an injector would it allow with a SAFC or other piggyback without going standalone? I'm going JZ so I won't be needing it but I'm just curious. Thanks.

The square chip has D151801-3040 7433-1008 on it. The large rectangle one has TYS 0111 97139133238. The rectangle to the right is too tough to see. I searched the net for Reg Reimer and it looks like it may be his work, but if it is it must be from before they had spacers to make for a cleaner look. Here are a few more close up pics.
