So i was looking at pictures and got to thinking about the valve cover differences on the 1JZ from Vvt-i to non Vvt-i

In my opinion the motor just looks cleaner and up to date with the VVt-I valve covers

So my questions is has anybody ever swapped the VVt-i Valve covers from a Gen 3 1J onto a Gen 1 or 2 motor ? Will it work ? it looks like it could with taking the front timing cover and swapping that out also.

I realize you'll have a Bubble on the front timing belt cover that's not needed for non VVti but i'm willing to deal with it lol :)

I can't possibly be the first person to think about doing this.

Here are some pics for food of thought

IMO it looks cleaner with the non VVTi covers. I personally like the look of the non VVTi spark plug cover. I would just get them powder coated and call it a day. Which is what I will be doing if I ever get this 2ZJ up and running.

lol hence the reason for getting it running first. I am about to put this thing for sale and get a new one and start from scratch. Damn PO screwed us on this one. Well, him and the shop that did this so called swap.

You know, you might be past the BHG, but you won't be past the paranoia for a good long while. :p

It's funny you say that because after me investing every thing i have in this car lately i'm so anxious and paranoid about it not running or something happening to the motor like in proper break in or machine work

Wait until you get a minor exhaust leak. Guarantee you your first thought will be "shit, I've got rod knock again..." Takes a few years to get used to a good running Supra after a string of bad luck/bad building practices.
