you can ven any type of BOV or BPV that I know of (so far) as long as the inlet to the BPV is plumbed and not the outlet, the BPV has correct vacuum readings, and the accordian hose is blocked off, but really, why would you want to do it?

;)

In other words, throttle body side of the bosch plumbed up, the other side not plumbed and where ever it was going to needs to be capped off.

Then I would have a vacuum leak at idle????? and until boost?? allowing unmetered air in and running lean, if running at all. cause a bosch is open at idle and closed on boost and open under throttle let off from boost. I was understanding that you could adjust them to stay closed at idle???

Woah woah, slow down a second here. Lets get some correct info here first regarding:

I have to agree with your logic. one thing mabey unrelated, mabey related. the vacuum valves underneath the intake mani. i am assuming these to be a chek valve of some sorts? or what are they. they both have a 2 wire plug to them.

Those are VSV's for the fuel pressure regulator and the EGR. If the EGR one is borked that could definately be messing with your idle. The one for the FPR is there to open to atmospheric pressure under high temps. This in turn allows the regulator to slightly raise cranking fuel pressure to help with hot starts. If either of these are plumbed incorrectly they could be the source of your vac/boost leak.

Secondly the BPV can certainly vented to atmosphere just by leaving the output side not hooked back into the accordian hose, but why would you want to? Its a Bosch BPV not a Greddy or HKS that you have for a particular sound. Just recirculate it for less problems. BUT, the BPV is NOT open at idle otherwise it would be a boost leak. If you have one that stays open its defective and needs to be replaced.

jj, if his egr valve was stuck open, it could cause idle problems... take a hammer and a steel tube, put it on the egr and give it a nice love tap.

Cryo: Read the post. He's not referring to the EGR valve.

Pete: I'm no longer doing things the argument way. As an SME it's my "job" to only point out incorrect information. If someone doesn't understand how something works I'm leaving it up to them to learn the facts. You're wrong and the more you push it the dumber you're going to look in the end.

Btw, ever see the movie Jaws where Quint says "and don'tcha be tellin' me my bizness agin"?

Whatever JJ, the point is, if the EGR VSV were stuck open it would cause the EGR to be functioning at idle, and would be an issue. I consider my job to help without attitude, so I'll just keep doing it. Feel free to correct my mistakes oh perfect one.

I shall, even though it puts me in an unenviable position. The statement above is incorrect. I thought I made that clear the first time. You're not helping if what you post is wrong.

Edit: since Pete edited his post to look innocent I'll do the same.

wow.....this is just getting ridiculous... why is it whenever i go into a thread im almost guaranteed to find at least one of two of our "SM Experts" belittling another member and creating drama.

seriously....just because you have a title under your name doesnt mean you can be an asshole to people. infact it should mean quite the opposite. you were appointed to provide correct information not talk down to people in derogatory fashions. and this isnt even CLOSE to the first time this has happened.

personally i think the wonder twins here need to be removed from their positions. no matter how much you know you ARE NOT a valuable asset to the community if you turn your nose up at everyone who doesnt know as much. you two need to get over yourselves and realize that not everyone knows as much and just because that fact may be true it doesnt make them any less of a person with the same love for the car that fuels this message board.

this is just getting unfathomable as to how the ratio of information to DRAMA you two are providing lately is far away from what it SHOULD be. it needs to stop.

Damn people! If you want to bicker back and forth on what's actually happening with the car, fine, at least you are on topic and trying to get to the root of whats going on. But when someone concedes and then members (especially "experts") continue to go after the other, thats ridiculous.

What is it lately with "older", well experienced members acting like fucking 14 year olds? I can understand getting tired of answering the same dumb questions over and over, but be an adult. I like learning from the smarter guys, not telling them how they're acting like my middle school cousin.

Sigh. All I did was tell the guy he was wrong, just like I'm supposed to do. It was he that got bent afterwards. I replied in kind and left it at that.

I didn't ask for the job and neither did jdub. I can't speak for him but I'll be happy to relinquish it if and when the management asks. Until then I suggest those who don't like what they read either ignore it or whine to those who're running the show.

i think that this thread has served it's purpose. thread closed.

for reference: the stock BPV is designed to fluctuate between open and closed at idle.

as for the e-fights going on here lately, here's my point of view on the whole thing, so take it for what it's worth.

this is the internet. if you don't have a thick skin, you best get on that quickly. (as sad as that may be in some cases) if someone points out that you're wrong, consider yourself that much more knowledgable. i find that i personally learn better if i'm NOT spoon fed the answers. i'd rather search for hours to obtain the knowledge that i'm looking for rather than have someone just tell me.

how do you ever expect to better yourself if you're being spoon fed your entire life. i mean, hell, some of the people i've seen on this and other forums need a goddamn rubber coated spoon, and that's just straight up sad no matter how you look at it. if someone shoves a grenade up your ass on the 'net, deal with it. then get back to reality (your own life that doesn't include the internet). and live it out.

if i took every e-insult personally, i'd be one hell of an angry person. it's time to grow up, people. get out of the pampers pull ups and get some real undies on. (preferably silk boxers ;))

have a nice night. i'm off to bed for work at 5:00am.

right. i didn't see any belittling here. JJ stated that another member was incorrect. the information is either right or wrong. there's no gray area. better to let someone go on believing that false information is true, or to correct them, or AT LEAST tell them it's not right? you decide.

once again, i don't think he was being an asshole. (re: my thick skin comment above) AND, there IS an ignore feature for those who can't deal with other members. if you choose to not use it, that's your own damn fault. he does provide correct information, by the way. perhaps a bit of a thicker skin is in order for you as well. JJ seems to help the people who are willing to help themselves, and the way things are going, i can understand why.

personally i think the wonder twins here need to be removed from their positions. no matter how much you know you ARE NOT a valuable asset to the community if you turn your nose up at everyone who doesnt know as much. you two need to get over yourselves and realize that not everyone knows as much and just because that fact may be true it doesnt make them any less of a person with the same love for the car that fuels this message board.

good for you, but that's not likely to happen. maybe if stupid kids would stop acting like they know everything and LISTEN to those who try to help them then this situation wouldn't arise at all.

preaching to the choir?

again, i don't see how he's "going after" another member. JJ pointed out a false piece of information. is that now considered going after other members?

maybe the fact that the people they're trying to help won't help themselves? if someone isn't willing to help themselves, then they deserve no help from anyone else.
