I'm finally perma-installing my boost gauge and am down to wiring the back lights.

The closest thing that I can find that makes sense to wire to (steering column mount) is the light dimmer, and from what I can see it looks like the perfect place.

There are three wires: Green, Black Stripe, Green Stripe

I know nothing about wiring, but I know I need a 12V power and that the other LED lead gets grounded. So which of the three is my 12 volt power?

And yes, I do feel a little silly here. :icon_conf

EDIT: I looked at the cygnus TSRM wiring page and I just don't get it. Chemistry I get, wiring is greek to me...

Green is a positive 12V but i'm not sure if splicing into that will have any ill effects.
The green gives a 12V supply to the rheostat... Im not too sure why the rheo is depicted as a transistor looking thing in the TEWD though. Maybe someone can explain that as well. Im getting kind of tired... anyway I only understand basic electrical theory. Sorry if I could much help you Kurt.

Well, the green is +12. The white/green stripe is the controlled ground for the combo meter lighting and the white/black stripe is ground. If you want your meter to stay full bright wire to the green and white/black stripe. If you want it to dim with the other lights wire to the green and the white/green stripe.

Fwiw the car's wiring colors are not random. Each color is associated with a specific system

Yes, although it may seem otherwise at times. All Toyotas follow a color scheme according to system. The basic wire color indicates the system to which it belongs while stripe color is used to distinguish one system from another. For example black is used for the starting, ignition, and fuel systems but stripe color is assigned according to a separate priority scheme. If you know the code you can look at any wire in the car and instantly know which system it involves. Pretty slick eh? ;)
