Camaros did not come with a 4.3L The 3rd gen firebird/camaro came with the following engines:
2.5L (151)
2.8L (173)
3.1L (191)
3.8 (231) Turbo Trans Am
5.0L (305)
5.7L (350)
In 87, the RS was only available in California, came with the LB8 MPFI V6 2.8L (173). 135 HP @4900, 160tq @3900. 3.42 rear for both the 4 speed auto and 5 speed manual.
With the 5.7 swap the car should weigh approximately 3,350 lbs without driver and without fancy options.

for a comparrison:
my car is an 86.5, 5 speed. before i turboswapped, i raced my friend, who at that time had a '92 305ci iroc camaro. i could take him. (very, very slowly reel him in) both of our motors were very, very tired. (and i've been driving stick since i was 16, and i was 20 at the time) his camaro was his first car that was a manual. he had it for 6 months.
after that, he got another camaro. this time with a 305, TBI (throttlebody injection). i could still very slowly reel him in. that motor was as tired as the other one.
he recently swapped to a crate 350ci, and made it EFI (grafted it on from the '92 camaro's 305 in conjunction with larger injectors, different computer chip etc...) i drove it the other day, and it would DEFINATLY smoke an N/A supra. (though, i'm not N/A anymore. heh)

The funny part is that the guy bought the motor from a 16yr old kid and dont know if its good! His car is in pieces and yet he makes rude commets on the supee! Thanx for imformitive discussion! Look i`m sorry Lanky and others for not being clear. I dont want to street race, i was refering to the 1/4 mile. The guy said it was a 4.3 i dont know anything about camaros. Also, the guys just trying to get on my nerves by "calling me out." The reason i asked if i could beat him is to see if i could beat him. The questions about mods i could to go fast is that i am weighing the idea of going na-t or turbo vs making n/a power. Next, if the camaro did not have a 4.3, what motors in it? I have seen a 2.8 motor and thats not it, the motor is TBI?(dont know what it means). Last, a guy at the junkyard sold me a "camaro" 4.3 for my dd s10, said it had more power, it looks and feels no different. Sorry for any anger i was just asking questions.
If it's TBI it's throttle body injection. 5.0L (305). Probably the LO3. IIRC it always made 170hp @ 4000 255tq @ 2400 regardless of year. With the RS 3.42 rear, it'll be quicker out of the hole than most 305 camaros, since they generally came with 2.77's. Bolt ons for bolt ons, he will walk you.
Dont go against him. Youll lose, flat out. His camaro's quick, but hes still a jerk, so walk away knowing that!

i wouldn't even bet on a windy road. those older camaro's can handle just as well as a stock mk3, i used to run with a few of them back when i had my 87 turbo...we have way more body roll..

Only a dumestic owner would call someone out. Tell him to screw off and put some glass packs on his car. ( It will make him faster) He probibly couldnt race anyway because he cant get into his cheaply made Camero because the door handles are all broken.
