Hi, guys. My friend has an H4 hid kit he is willing to give me. I know that our headlights aren't compatable with HIDs. I was looking at the H4 projector housings on ebay and something caught my attention. I realized that the glass projector lens may interfere with the bulb. The bulb is approximately 1.5 inches long. Can someone direct me to the correct bulb housing to buy, or PM me a link to the one on ebay since ebay links aren't allowed on the forums? I'm not ballin so I can't afford the Bosch or Hella H4 housing. Thanks.

You gotta talk to HID Planet! He brought his mk3 by the shop with a real hid setup with special housings and name brand bulbs and balasts with 5k color temp, OH MAN it was freakin awesome. Like night and day literally from Jose's McCullogh hid bulbs or my oem Kotto h4 housings with good halogen bulbs. THe beam pattern was really nice and the light output was very good.
I was very impressed, I am buying a set myself. The price was not bad either, less then I expected for a nice hid kit.

Edit: can someone give me a general idea of how long an H4 bulb is? Thanks.

Stay away from the clear diamond housings. Unless they are e-cdoe Rybrig, you will really have a lot of glare. The housings I brought to DriftMotion were the Hella H4 Conversion lamps and yes they cost more, but this is because they are designed correctly and are built well. The most important thing besides the pattern generation thru the lens is the glare reduction with an underbelly shield. You want to reduce ot remove any light hitting the bottom of the headlamp itself. All the light should only hit the upper half of the headlamp.

With that said, the system im putting together for Supra MK3 owners will contain a custom "H4 to D2S" adaptor shield which inserts into the H4 headlamp, Philips 5000K model 85122+ OEM burners and Hella ballasts. Im in the works of putting this together and it should hopefully be available real soon. Its NOT plug in play 100% because you have to make a harness to power the ballasts etc... but what im hoping to do is to be able to supply the parts, and talk to places like DriftMotion who can provide services to do the install for a nominal fee.

I'll see if I can take beam pattern shots within a week to show what kind of output this will provide, and it will give others a comparison shot to show what you should see when doing a HID conversion correctly, not just plugging in a cheap kit and causing glare all over the place, includinf other drivers and creating unsafe driving conditions.

Those diamod clear lights really dont create a good pattern and if you throw HIDs in there it only gets worse.

How complex is the harness HIDplanet?

Its not difficult if you have any experience making harnesses or working with wires and relays. YOu just need one trigger 12V signal from one headlight to energize the relays which switch power to the ballasts from a wire thats fused to the battery. Ground the ballasts and relays and its done. Takes a little time, and mounting the ballasts can be tricky depending on your battery size because the chord from the ballast to the bulb is fairly short.

alrite guys... it's not hard to do a retrofit into soem ebay clear housings. in fact the best retrofit would be on a clear glass housing such as the ebay diamond ones. I did it on my camry and i'm still working on it.

I still need to add some spacers to it so it cam aim higher, it's aiming too low right now and after that i plan on making a cheap custom shroud so there wont be any glare.

Well the issue with the mk3 is thatthey use pop up headlights with pretty much no room to spare behind them. It can be done, and it has been done, but its a lot more work versus the h4 conversion which is much easier. Doesnt get you the ultra sharp cutoff, but it is clearly a great improvement and is on par with other OEM HID reflector setups.

I dont understand that question...."?"

After reading again I think I understand. Youre asking about the lamp kits sold there. I dont really recommend any of those because I dont think those bulbs really are very good. I suggest if you plan to stick with halogens, is to find H4 EURO-Silverstars which are 100% clear, produce much more light but are hard to find.
