GE Question

Hey there everyone. I have a 7M-GE parts car that was involved in an accident that tore up the front and back. I want to swap the GE parts into my non-running turbo car, but am wondering if anyone here who has experience swapping (either GE-> GTE or vice versa) knows exactly what it entails. The only reason why I am doing a GTE-GE swap is because I came across the car in good shape for a good price (minus the accident damage). It seems some of the fuses are blown (although I haven't checked which ones), which means the car won't start in current form. I figure I'll need the ECU from the car and maybe TCM (5-speed) if the TCM in my turbo car (it's auto) is not compatible. Does anyone know what the differences are in wiring harnesses or point me in the right direction? I've pretty much hacked off the front end of the car and the engine is almost ready to pull straight out. I've tried searching past articles, but most of them just talk about doing a swap or are a work in progress. I have too many other side projects going on, but my non-running Supra has been sitting in my garage for four years. Even if I get her out on NA power, I really just want to drive it again. That and I broke the differential on my daily driver, if I fix it, it costs me money and time, I need a car to drive in the meantime. The GE motor was rebuilt with a new HG and torqued to 75lb-ft so I shouldn't have issue with a BHG for the time being. Any help, advice, or other options (like a built turbo motor for sale) would be appreciated.

You should be able to drop the GE in and keep the GTE electronics installed. It'll be weaker than a stock N/A, but it'll be easier when you're ready to drop a GTE back in.

I can still run a GE without having to change the wiring harness? It seems like theres a fairly large difference around the afm connector, well, we'll see when I get to putting it in, thanks.

You would run it with the GTE's electronics: AFM, CPS, Coil Packs, Ignitor and so on. Just don't hook up the turbo, IC, oil cooler.

Make sense?

Huh - why would a GE on GTE electronics be weaker?

Lower compression ratio, no ACIS, taller end gear, less aggressive timing map.

lol yea, just do the feed and return line, and boost it like normal?

Depends on if he wants to make use of the water cooling and oil cooler.

Plan is to run straight NA, No turbo whatsoever. Old GTE head is junk which is why I can't put any part of the turbo motor back in. Old CT-26 was in pretty bad shape too and I wouldn't want to put it back on there anyhow. I gave it to a friend of mine. As for gauge cluster, I have both clusters from an NA car and a Turbo car. Knowing the NA one probably won't work on the GTE electronics, probably do the voltmeter mod and get rid of the stock boost gauge. The real fun stuff will be hooking up all the little vacuum lines, and figuring out where all the little support and bracket bolts go. Yay for the online TSRM! I'm about halfway done removing the GE engine from the donor car. I have removed the upper intake manifold and vacuum lines to get the wiring harness out, in the process I broke both the little nipples on the BVSV on the thermostat housing, although I can probably just use the repaired BVSV off the turbo motor. Now I gotta get under the car and unbolt it from the mounts and bell-housing and lift it out, use the mounts of my 89 car to mount it, then start the tedious reassemble. That's the plan. Although with the warm summer, it gets fairly hot in the garage.
