this thread is lame..

also.. prices didnt go down because of our invasion of Iraq. Also.... the government shouldn't have control of the market..its called a free market...the supply and demand effect folks.... that and the oil producing countries gouging us...so lay off the government..if anything..blame the tree hugging hippy liberals for keeping us from drilling the ANWAR...its a humongous resource that has been left untapped because of stupid environmentalist who think drilling will result in a loss of wildlife, when in fact the wildlife has increased and flourished in the areas surrounding drillsites where as before the drill site no wildlife flourished in that area at all....

Think about what your saying, going into ANWAR still wouldnt fix anything for at least 5 or 6 years, assuming it was done at 4 or 5 years ago, at which point it would only temporarly fix the problem for a few years in which time we will only become more depedent on oil. Going into ANWAR is only going to make things worse when it runs out of oil. There is no need to insult people who have different views.

i didnt insult anybody...and also..there is estimated to be enough oil in ANWAR to supply the US for quite sometime... if there wasn't that much there..would the oil companies be so anxious?

You are right about there being a whole lot of oil and of course there going to be anxious to get there hands on it, they are going to make a crap load of money off the American people. The American economy is based on oil and if we dont start switching now, the point in which we run out of oil will be prolonged and when we finally do run out of oil its going to be worse than if we took the necessary steps now to stop relying on oil so much. Like I said earlier if all the auto manufactures raised all there vehicles gas mileage by an average of 1 mpg that would take care of any oil shortage and save the same amount of oil thats in the ANWAR taking care of the problem now not 10 years from now. I dont see how wasting more oil is the solution to the problem. Plus if we still need more oil in years to come, we will have a nice reserve to tap into.

if we were really going to run out of oil soon, don't you think the auto companies would be spending alot more time and money on vehicles that dont use oil? Think about it..who would know better when the oil is gonna be gone? If tomorrow the oil was used up GM would have alot of useless vehicles out there...alot of money gone.
THERE WILL NEVER BE AN END TO AN ENERGY SOURCE AS PLENTIFUL AS OIL.
(not to say oil will last forever, but rather once it is depleted, another resource will be available)

the efficiency of vehilces is getting better... but people are still willing to pay, so it will still be sold high. Noone holds a gun to your head and makes you turn up the boost or buy an SUV, you choose to. In which case..no longer are you allowed to complain... if you buy a Tercel or Prius or Honda INsight... you can bitch..because you are making an effort to minimize your oil consumption...

WHne the oil gets close to running out..the oil companies will switch to another business or die..and beleive me..they dont want to die...the primary contributors to altnernate fuels will be, and already are..the oil/auto companies...they have thier finger on the pulse of the natural resource and also the market of american consumers.... we have noone to blame for prices continuing to rise but ourselves..and the OPEC nations...

It's easy to just say that it's our fault, but who is really going to stop driving? Many people rely on cars for their jobs. It'd be impossible to get everyone to stop long enough to damage the companies.

i dont suggest we stop driving...but how about instead of buying a ford expedition for a family of 3, you buy a Malibu, Taurus, etc.... there is absolutely no necessity for vehilces that large for families so small... I know people that drive expiditions daily with one person.... thats ridiculously wasteful..and in that case..i dont want to hear them bitch about gas prices...they bought that truck knowing prices would steadily increase.. (at the inflation rate at the least)
the consumer decides the market price... if McDonalds suddenly charged 3 dollars for a drink..they'd sell less drinks..and either lower the price to sell more..or stop selling drinks.... the same concept applies to gas... (to a certain degree..as the oil cartels do play a role in pricing) I'm not suggesting we boycott..as those don't work on private companies very often...I'm suggesting that those who are making no personal effort to conserve their money by driving a more efficient vehicle, shut the hell up, if you knowingly ignore the circumstances, that doesn't make you immune to the consequences....

yeah.. moslty suv's suck.. i was nearly killed by a suburban while driving my celica last week, 4500lbs truck versus my 2400lb car... dumb women ran me completely off the road and up onto a ditch..
anywho... im glad you see my main point... i could care less about the whole debate of who is raping who at the pump.. im just saying that until people start to demand better mileage..they ought to shut up and deal with it.

Gas prices suck.

And I drive a Tahoe BY MYSELF. It picks up bitches. All I hear is "ooo, your Tahoe is soo nice. I like the seat warmers." HAHA, So until I get the Supra, I can deal with it. :biglaugh:

Plus, when I get the Supra, I have to put 93 octane, so it'll cost the same to fill it up as it does to fill the Tahoe. So, whats the diff?? :dunno:

lankey189 I totally agree with you on the suv thing, same goes for trucks. The problem is the features that come most of the cars and trucks persuade people to buy them without being to concerned about gas mileage. For an example the Ford trucks that are the King Ranch or Harley Davidson models, people sure are not going to use them for what a truck is suppose to be used for, but they still get 10mpg. The auto manufactures need to break away from the close ties they have with the oil businesses and start making more fuel efficient models. There are a select few models that are making better gas mileage but for the most part they have stayed the same since the 1980's. My friend has a 1985 fullsize Ford truck that has a 300ci motor that gets the same mileage as the new f-150s. I think its hard to say whether or not we are running out of oil, but the track we are on, its going pretty fast. The oil companies certainly do not want us to know whether the oil supply is running out, because if it it they will loose money. So companies like Shell have already started doing alternative energy research, but if the other companies are they certainly are not saying anything.

saw 3:49 for premium today

Ehm you guys haven't got it that bad, we pay about 1.45 EURO's ($1.80) for a LITER. That's 3.8 (or something close) times 1.80 makes $6.84 for a gallon. Granted it's 95 but still. We'd kill for the prices you get.

And as stated before, gasprices went up, but wages go up over time as well. Not every month though, that'd be nice :)

Damn I wouldnt mind paying only 1 or 2 something per gallon. Here in Japan gas is almost $5 USD per gallon.

it's getting close to $3 a gallon again for us here.

I think I saw $1.95 prices for a quick minute sometime last year, didn't last very long though. Prices are up and down so damn crazy
