Fuel pump & line questions..

I'm in the market of buying a Bosch external 044 pump. I see that it's recommended to run these inline between your intank pump, and fuel rail.
What if the stock pump dies? Will your flow rate to the fuel rail lower? If you have your car tuned to a certain flow rate and suddenly it drops wouldn't that be harmful? Maybe I shouldn't be so concerned with that cause I'm only aiming for mid 400's, and that Bosch pump alone will easily support that.

I'm going to have to take my fuel tank out and get it cleaned out cause my car has been sitting for a long time. I'm going to replace my fuel lines too. What size fuel lines should I go with that would give me some head room just incase I want more than mid 400's down the line?


EDIT: Is there some kind of website that can explain free flow rate and pressure (psi). How can you determine how much HP a fuel pump can support.

With baffle and all? I guess I can find somebody here in town to do that. I have meager welding skills myself. But do I have to go through all of that trouble? I'll leave that as my last resort if I can't find another route. Thank you though for your input.

hey guys how much work or no work is involved with installing a walbro 255. i don't mean how to install it, but will i need anything else to go with it, FPR, new lines, fuel filter, anything?

You could just stick dual walbro 255's in the tank if you don't want to weld a sump on. Or find some other in tank pump that flows pretty well. For 400's I think you'll be fine with the stock fuel feed line. I don't think you want to run the Bosch being fed from the stock pump.

Aj: It's a good idea to replace the fuel filter when you install the walbro. If you get your pump from driftmotion Im almost certain it comes with the fuel hose you need but if not you will need a short hose to connect the pump to the bracket. It's also a good idea to do the 12 volt mod found in the reference/tech tips section. It's not a bad idea to get a nice AFPR while you're at it but at the very least you have to drill out or bypass your J tube on the side of the engine.

im getting the walbro in a parts car deal, never been installed, new in box. i have no problem getting a hose for it, but the drill out or bypass might get me. i'll have to look up how to do it i guess.

It's not that hard. Look for the tube that looks like a J bolted to the side of your engine and take it off. Find a drill bit and drill out the orifice so its the same size as the ID of the tube. Clean it out and bolt it back on and reconnect the lines.

I had an 040 and an 044 both fail within days in the one car, try and find some made in Germany, mine were Czhech and screamed their brains out after a couple of hard pulls.

Thanks for that tip IJ. I'll keep that in mind when I buy one. Will it have "made in Germany" marked on it somewhere? Or specified before buying one online?
