Recently this is what has happened to my supra...

i was driving the other night and somthing happened...i stopped and white smoke started pouring out from the driver side car....white smoke...i was SHIIIITTTTTTEE...."DAMN YOU GREDDY metal HEAD GASKET!!!"...but i was like...impossible.......when i was driving i heard a kinda rattling noise....whenever i gave it gas.....but when cruzin or in neutral it didn't make the noise....so i was like...Transmission....check the fluid, good, oil, 1/4 a quart low...no sign of a blown head gasket......When i started to turn the corner, it just died...stopped...notta....nothing....dead.....well i noticed my radiators leak had like gotten bigger and had slung water all of the place and it was kind of empty.... but didn't overheat....when i tried to start the car again....it would idle real low and try to start but then it started make this rattling noise in the top end...but then when it started it was fine and idled fine....i had put it in time the other night...but maybe i did somthing wrong....The smoke was coming from the back right hand side of the motor next the brake booster........I looked with all my might i didn't see any leaks of oil, tranny fluid, but i did loose some oil pressure....the first notch on the on the gauge is where is would sit at idle....now it sits lower.......i have no idea what the heck is going on...maybe a lot of bad things happened at the same time......i'm just gonna sleep on it until it cools down....i didn't really get mad or discouraged or somthing like that...i don't have a lot of money and i do owe money on it....but it should all work out....i hope...

Oh and my shifting was getting rough....like quick and jerky...dunno if that helps.... its an auto tranny too....;]
i thought my torque converter might have...did something...it wasn't supposed to do or just died...i dunno....i know nothing about transmissions....

But then after tinkering with...i noticed that my valve cover were kind of loose so i tightened them up....then following the piping from my firewall to the water line that goes around the engine...the oil had dripped onto that pipe....because of my radiator was spraying the water onto the fan...from there to the valve covers, making that connection slippery and when under pressure had loosened the piping, there for when driving radiator fluid poured out onto my tranny, causing the crazy amount of steam, causing all the water to be out of my radiator, minus the water from the radiator leak:]...getting a oem one to hold me till next pay check, i will try to figure out the knocking noise but i was thinking of draining the oil, just so if some water some how magically got in there, i could get it out....but we'll see.....maybe i am correct...if the head is warped or somthing i found one my cousin has at his shop for 50 bucks....been sitting there since the supra's were just coming out...:]....possible use but no damage...cams and everything...WHOOT

well even tinkering with it more, i poured some fluid into the radiator and the next thing you know it came POUUURRRING out faster than i was putting it in, from behind the starter, i check the hose, NOTHING, checked all around, then i squeezed my hand behind the starter and felt it coming out of the freeze plug area....i was like WWWWWWWWTTTTTTTTTTTFFFFFFFFFFFFF....i checked Cygnus, there are 3 back there, i had them replaced by the machine shop.......i guess they did a shitty job.......or something built up pressure....i did use my heater, and had never used it before that night also....weird....

But then i noticed in this picture in Cygnus, the freeze plug i pointed to, says that this is a threaded plug, and doesn't look like this one on mine....i checked the older and newer blocks, both had the same plugs....

This is my block...sorry no good clear pic of it....this is from when i did the rebuild....

Those look like the other standard plugs...

I come from a land down under
Early blocks are threaded late are pressed in plugs.

People make a few mistake when fitting 7M plugs.

a) They use an imperial plug that's "close" and they pop out our plugs are Metric and if the parts store doesn't have the correct plugs try another store that does and failing that hit the Toyota Parts department.

b) While fitting they tap the plug is slowly with little hits, this collapses the Crush fit needed to hold the plug in place and they pop out.

This is how I fit freeze plugs and have NEVER had a problem.

I try to use Brass plugs when they're available.

I take some fine grit wet/dry sandpaper and clean the plug hole in the block well.

I find a socket that's 1 mm smaller in diameter than the plug's inner diameter, if you use a snug fit socket the plug will shrink when fitted and the socket WON'T come out.

I coat the plug with Permatex #3.

I use an old 1/2" extension and a large hammer giving the plug some light taps to start it square to the hole.

I then try and hit the plug in using the minimum amount of hits, usually 2>3 will do it making sure I don't push it right in.

well i can do that...but i guess i will have to pull the engine...again....well even at that.......i guess i could say the machine shop did a bad job and make them redo it but i would have to disassemble the block and everything....at least make them pay for it...i dunno.....

well i guess we'll see...i just don't have the money to buy anything else....if all else fails i'll just throw a 350 in it and go....HHAHAHAHA....seriously....thats very common around here...

What would cause a build up of pressure enough to blow a plug out...LETS SAY they used the right one and did it correctly...

what is the correct size for the plugs....the frigging toyota dealer couldn't give me a size but i had the item number and it came up on there computer as "Plug"

And they didn't have it and would take a while to get....

My cousin needed the size also, so i went to o'reily's and they had them....Told me they listed 2 sizes....30 and 40.8

i just bought a few of each....they were like 50 cent or so...lol

Got everything back together....But i tried to set the timing and it's out of time now....lol...it's 3 in the morning....i'll figure it out tomorrow....Help on putting it into time?

'Oh and i had something happen that i've NEVER seen....I tried to start the car and it wouldn't and the Digital Super Monitor read 0000000000000000 across the display....found out a ground i had on the wiring harness wasn't hooked up....WHOOPS...fixed it....
