The thing that gets me the most, is how loud your valvetrain is. Sounds like a diesel. If the shims were off enough, it could be the valves are closing to early, and either not letting in enough air/fuel, or not letting out enough exhaust gas. Did you check the clearances by the TSRM?
I figured it out...my timing was WAYYYYYY OFFFFF!!!!....jeeze i rock....so yeah...i set it and it purrs like a kitten now....no misfire and no loud cam.....But i do have 1 exhaust shim that is a bit wore....i'm about to pic up a head for 50 bucks in excellent condition....
