I've done a little research on that oil (Evolution SRX 5W30)...from what I can tell it's a boutique oil. It's a Group IV (pao) base stock or a Group IV/V blend. That makes it similar to the German Castrol synthetic. I can't find any info on the additive pack though, but it's a very good base stock.

I normally shy away from the boutique oils...too damn expensive compared to what else is out there. The reason I looked into it is I can get the Elf oil for free. ;)

LOL...wish I could man. I'm lucky to get what I can from my buddy ;)

I would never use a 50W oil in my motor...max would be 10W-40 and that would be on a high milage engine starting to feel the wear & tear. IMO, a 0W-30 or 5W-30 fully synthetic oils are great to use in the 7M....flows well on start-up (where most wear occurs) and keeps flowing throughout the operating range of the motor.

and i would never use something lower then 10w-60... 5w-30 is to liquid for such turbocharged big power engine, i would minimum recomend using 5w-50, it would maintain good lubrication in cold starts, and wont become to liquid at hi speed or red-line driving ;)

:3d_frown: And the 50W oil myth simply will not die...you seriously need to do some more research man.
But...your motor...use whatever makes you feel good.

Edit: I pretty much spelled out why a 50W oil is not optimal in this thread (beginning at post #80)...it's based on a lot of research from various sources linked in the thread. Here's the info...do with it as you will ;)

Put full synthetic in that 1J...German Castrol 0W-30 would be an excellent choice too and likely cheaper than the Elf. I think you can even get it at Wal-Mart up in Canada (it's only at AutoZone here in the US). The front label has "European Formula" on the front and "made in Germany" on the back...it's the only fully synthetic oil Castrol makes. The rest of Castrol's Syntec oils use a Group III base stock...the European countries will only allow an oil to be called a "synthetic" if it's base stock starts as a synthetic as well.

Consider changing your crank and cam seals before you install the 1J...don't want any leaks regardless of the oil you choose ;)

i ordered an engine gasket set

just unsure of how much of it i want to take apart and replace seals on. Plus i don't know any of the torque values for any of it.

so i can put it back together LOL

Edit:

i will check auto zone and walmart if i can get it i will.

i wantt o try and put the best in my car i can

Replacing the seals shouldn't be too hard...on the front, you would just need to know the crank bolt and cam gear bolt torque to replace those seals. The back has to have the tranny off to get to the seal...don't know about the 1J, but the 7M rear crank seal is in it's own housing.

And you're welcome :)

jdub, I wasnt talking about 50w, it just would be to heavy for normal engine, maybe suitable just for purpoise built circuit engine. I was looking at 10w-60 grade oil, and i dont see why should it be wrong. This grade is used in almost all rally races known to me, also I used to drive in Rally with compleatly built EVO VIII, and had 3 mechanics, all of them demanded only Castrol RS 10w-60 oil.

By the way, 5w-30 grade is non existant in europe (maybe such manufacturers like ELF have them, but Castrol and Mobil1 do not offer such grade).

Do u have any wear scales comparing 5w-50 or 10w-60 to some 5w-30? I would like to see more data before messing with oil ;)
