I saw these on (i believe) Rodels Supra, and wanted them on mine. I was wondering if there was a way to have dual projectors on each side, with HIDs?

If thats not possible, how hard would it be to put dual halogen projectors in each headlight bucket?

I just love the look of it. haha

One is a projector, the other is a reflector high beam. They're hella 90mm units.

Not cheap and quite difficult to install and get everything right (trust me, I've been working on a semi-bolt in kit for a while now)

What projectors did you use?

And how did you modify the wiring/headlight switch so it knows to switch bulbs when switching from low --> high beams?

bi xenon hi/low hid projector and a random fog light projector
the headlight wiring was easy cus you dont have to do anything except plug in the h4 to the hid but the fog lights were much more difficult

I guess i dont understand how they work with the single bulb..

in the bi xenon there is a reflector inside that moves wen you activate the highbeam

So you wired the fog lights to the outer projectors and then had high and low on the inner?

I was thinking high low in two different projectors. If i understand correctly, theres three wires on the headlight bulb, (I think.. hahaha) and one of them is for lows, and one is for high beams, and then a common ground? In stock form of course. Is that correct?

There is one Posi and two earth wires. I was just talking about doing this in another thread lol. As Poodles has already said, it is by no means a bolt on procedure. Some people do HID's and a reflector, but i wanted to do two matching sets of bi-xenon projectors with two matching sets of HID capsules. The cost for this setup (If done properly) is ridiculous, and that is one of the reasons there are no bolt-on kits available. They would easily cost 2k+. I don't like the bug-eyed look of using one larger projector in a square housing as some others have done, so i chose to keep my square reflectors as low/high beams, and instead swap out my fogs for large diameter projectors with HID's in them. Some people have voiced concern in regards to my decision, but i believe that with the proper modifications it will work for what i need. Just letting you know that there are alternatives to the norm, but do what suits your needs and driving style. theretrofitsource.com has alot of useful information and parts if you need them, and hidplanet.com is an automotive lighting forum you may want to look at, it will also be very helpful.

Speaking of TAKING FOREVER, when are those lights of yours gonna be ready Poodles?:icon_bigg

Okay, deff. not getting 4 sets of HIDs. Wayy to much money. Ill just get 4 halogen projectors. That sounds like it would be enough light anyway.

And rodama5anthony, you need to do that write up. My main concern is mounting the projectors and getting the headlight to only come up so far. In my head, it seems like if you shorten the arm that attaches to the headlight, or the arm that comes off of the motor, the headlight will go lower than it should when you lower it, then you have to compensate for that, so the headlight will just go up to the same height as stock.. Maybe im just overthinking this.. haha

Of note, rodam's setup isn't legal (low beam has to be on outside), but most places won't look that hard. If my other setups sell well I plan on getting the other setup made. Right now I could make it but it would be lacking a shroud and I just don't think it's up to my standards.

Also of note, the 90mm hella modules are sub-par for projectors. They are still HUGE upgrades over a stock sealed beam though, and the H9 bulbs are extremely bright. There are far better projectors out there, the issue is that they're not sealed so they have to be installed into some kind of housing.

If money was no object this would all be done by now

The Mk3's headlihts aren't like the 240's. The headlight motor makes one full revolution every time it is switched on, so simply cutting the rod won't work. The cheapest and easiest way to get sleepies would be to use the adjustment knobs next to each headlight to get them where you want them, then unplugging the plug to the bottom of the motor. The headlights will still turn on and off as normal, but your motors will not move. The downside to this would be that you are stuck in sleepy mode, and can't put your light up or down. All you would need to do reverse it is plug the motor back in. I wouldn't suggest this mod unless you have HID's or a retrofit, because you will only have light from the top edge of your sealed beam light, and it's like your headlights aren't even on if you do it with the stock lights.

I know ive seen people where they mod the headlight to move up and down like 2 inches.. I think you have to mod the arm that comes off the motor, but that still doesnt make sense to me..

2 hella 90mm projectors won't fit on the same side. I tried.

My lights r wired like how u describe. The projector is low beam (hid), the high beam unit (halogen) turns on with the high beam light switch. Sorry, but I wouldn't be able to explain how to do it, I had someone else do the wiring.

I'm gonna change my setup by putting lexus ls430 projectors (the best of projectors) into h4 housings.
