Ok, ordered a gasket kit off ebay, oem HG, staying stock, and N/A, so it should work fine right?

I plan on having the head flattened, dont really want to mess with the block unless I have to. I'll clean out the threads.

My main questions are:

Copper seal spray on the HG?
Does ARP make bolts? All I can find are studs
What grit sandpaper to get the old HG off is best?
Leave cams in? I dont want to take them out lol.

I plan on replacing the hard to get to hoses, and valve stem seals, having the valves cleaned, etc. If I find other shit wrong, ill replace it. Any other good ideas?

I did a HG on my friends car, then a head swap, so I have a good idea of what I'm doing. Just looking for any small details I should watch, Id like to only do this once.

And does can someone quickly link me to the TRSM? I want to read up on timing it.

Copper seal spray on the HG? << Yes or Permatex Brake Quiet

Does ARP make bolts? All I can find are studs << Yes they do

What grit sandpaper to get the old HG off is best? << Sharp scraper used carefully is better

Leave cams in? I dont want to take them out lol << no reason to remove them if you're not touching the valves (I would while it's apart though)

IJ i love you haha

KK well copper yes, should I do studs or bolts? Im staying stock, n/a, etc. just getting it running right. I cant find the bolts though. Know who has em? Whatever is cheaper is better. Iv heard studs are stronger.

Scraper, can do :)

Well I planned on doing valve stem seals, and checking valve straightness, I have to take the cams out for that? :(

Copper is good as long as you DON'T use 15 cans per gasket ;)

PM Aaron at Driftmotion for the bolts (Studs are overkill for an NA)

Just take the entire head assembled to the shop and get them to do the work (trust me on this)

I dont even plan on using a whole can ;)

Yea I'd def rather use bolts

And thats what I was going to do, should i take both mani's completely off? if i have the intake and exhaust gaskets, might as well use them?

Blah, I just know I'm gonna run into a bunch of annoying things.

I better not take it apart to find a chunk missing out of a cylinder or somethin. Id be PISSED lol.

I'd have to sell my bike :(. Then I'd have to go turbo if I'm rebuilding it haha.

Btw, If I were to re-ring it, could I do that.. with the block in the car? Take off the caps, push the pistons up, new rings, drop it back in?

The copper coat stuff sprays really thin, and runs easy. When you take the head to the machine shop, you might go ahead and get a valve job to. Seems I payed around $280 for the valve job, milling, cleaning, and reshimming the cams.

Remember to take them the valve and cam seals out of the h.g. kit so you don't have to pay for them twice.

to get the oil pan off im pretty sure you gotta drop the crossmember or lift the motor. so itd be a lil difficult it sounds like you need a cherry picker and an engine stand.

it might seem like common sense but ill say it anyway (cause ive seen people forget...) make sure you drain the oil and DRAIN THE COOLANT. when youre removing the head itd be pretty easy to pour a bunch of coolant down the oil passages.

Get the fuel injector o-ring kits from napa. They are like 3 bucks each and have all the rings and grommets for the injectors. After my bhg I had a bad grommet that was leaking air, took me a while to track that down. Might as well get those changed out while they are easy access.

Use a few cans of throttle body cleaner on all the intake parts while they are out.

Get 'the right stuff' for the valve covers in the front(shows in the manual where to use it), with new valve cover gaskets of course.

UPDATE

For shits and giggles, I had my friend pull spark plug wires.

He pulled the #3 wire, and no difference. Im like WTF POWNZORD. Iv got new NGK plugs, gapped correctly, new Borg-Warner select wires, cap, and rotor. Should not have an ignition problem. Pulled the injector for #3, same problem.

I'm thinking injector. Should i stethescope the injector for a double check?

You said you have a bhg. That's probably the cylinder its on, and the water/coolant is washing out the spark. Did you pull the plug yet to see what kind of shape its in?
