I was looking for a new clutch on ebay and ran into a few that said :

TOYOYA SUPRA NON-TURBO (3.0L) 8/1988-1997

So i am assuming that the tranny is different for 89+ .. Is it true? Well I don't really care if the tranny is different I just want to know if the clutch will fit.

i dont think so. the guy at my dealership said there was, but i think he order the wrong part just to cover his ass. then when i compare the parts at the dealership he said i would have it pressed on. i took it out there and asked how much and they said its the wrong part. kinda funny kinda not.

The only differance is the release bearing. Actually the earlier original units had a light duty pressure plate, but all replacements (even toyota) use the later heavier duty unit.

The differance in the bearing is that the earlier one is pressed on to the hub where as the later one has the hub built onto the bearing. I dont think that you can interchage them unless you change the release arm/fork also. IIRC, the arm/fork was changed with the bearing so therefor early bearing assembly requiers the early arm/fork and late style bearing assembly need the late arm/fork

The bearing changed in 07/88. The clutch release fork didn't change for the W58 (well the part number changed, but it changed at a different time than the bearing did, and they should be interchangable. (04/88)).

The pressure plate changed for 1990, previous part number superscedes to the new one.

So, all that being said, a newer clutch will fit the older car, and if it comes with a new bearing, that will be fine too. :)
