Could these pistons be reused?

Yep triple coated but I'd assume they would have bored to JE's specs..

My Ross set had the same coatings and you could see evidence of some funky expansion going on even with another 2 thou clearence on them.

I thought the spec for JEs was .003 - I dont have the spec sheet but that what I remember off the top of my head.

4-4.5 is the spec for pretty much any 2618 alloy piston.

Ian, with triple coatings, I wouldn't expect nearly as much heat in the pistons itself (and therefore, less expansion) so you should be fine with 3 thou clearance

I think that's actually the rule of thumb - coated pistons go 1 thou less.

Dow: Yep that's what I thought (just searched here for my JE sheet but can't find it to confirm)

My pistons came out in amazing shape considering how hard I hammered it this last build :D

Ross are 2618 but due to the extra mass they spec 6 thou which is rattle city when cold I dropped it back to 5 with coatings but still wore the skirt coatings off in around the 10000 km mark. (and still rattled when cold)

one thing though rich - the did not come out of his motor. He can bore the block he is using to properly match the pistons after repair. He shouldnt have any slap.

I missed that too, so yes if his motor is still stockish bore than it can be bored to match the finished product of a repaired piston. Media blast the top and coat them too, that will for sure remove all the carbon.
