Considering 7M build or 2JZ swap... again

I prefer the extra stroke of the 7M on the street.

If you build a 7M, get the late model block - you'll have extra meat in the block, to make it about the same strength as a JZ block.

For me, a forged piston, forged rod, metal head gasket, arp studded 7M made more sense to me, than a stock 2JZ.

In the end, it is your call - decide what you want, which platform will best serve you to get there, and go!

yeah, you'd think the 7M would have more torque. just couldn't revv as high. looking at Dr.jonz engine really pushes me towards the 7M at this point.

MAP ECU will not change the rev limit.

there is a setting where you can change the rev limit on the map-ecu2. i dont know about the map-ecu however. i also dont know if it does anything.

i would be getting the map-ecu2 if i were to do this, i found my waterpump housing, so that take care of that issue. i mocked everything up and pretty much everything is there, i might leave the head alone for now, it's inpretty good shape.

i just had the perfect idea. i could try to make the outside of the engine look completely stock, but everything internal is upgraded. although i'll have to stick with the ct-26, but i can upgrade that. i think that would be pretty badass...

i just went through all my 7M stuff, and i ca pretty much put the engine together right now..lol

The extra torque when off boost, and under partial boost = better gas mileage (not needing as much boost to facilitate acceleration)

I'm planning on doing some work to the head to beef up the airflow through it (which is why the JZ makes more power than the 7M, btw)

Equal airflow between the 7M and the 2J will show the 7M to yeild more power - due to mechanical advantage acting upon the crankshaft (longer stroke).

Just rack it up to personal preference :D

7mpower is dead

I can't believe I'm saying this but...

I would have argued with this a year or so ago, but I am starting to think the same way.

Let's face it, 7m is old tech, and performance parts are limited to what's around today.

In other words, I don't see the likelihood of any new groundbreaking perfomance mods, given the age of the engine design.

In my opinion, the 1jz is too small displacement and too hard to get parts for...not practical.

I think the next engine for me will likely be a 2jz or possibly a 1uz w/ 3uzfe heads...maybe supercharged.

I might even try to mate a 6 speed auto or a 4speed turbo hydro. We'll see, but I'm not going to sink a ton of money into a 7m.

For what it would cost to build a good 7m I could upgrade to at least 2jz, so it's really a no-brainer.

Um...... i wonder the same thing :sarcasm: spend 5-6 grand on built 7m or like 2.5-3 grand on 2jz swap and Spend the other 2-3 grand on 2jz parts, huge turbo, and full tank of gas, and make well over the 500 hp mark. Also 2jz looks a lot better under hood them 7m in my eyes.

Hell Yeah!

Why dump all that dough into a 7M?

You already know how to swap a 2jz, it'll be easier the second time around.

I don't have to tell you that a 2jz is waaaaaaaay better in every way, i.e. cooling, oiling, reving, power and reliability.

If you have the funds and the knowledge to do a 2jz, then going back to a 7m would be passing on Angelina Jolie for some fat broad. Fuck that!:3d_frown:

can't walk into a local parts store and find anything... you have to know what to cross referance stuff with, which IMHO is too much of a hassle...

iam a 7m guy but lets face it the only reason i am or most of us are is were to poor to afford a 2j:cry: if i had the money i would def get the 2j its more reliable and more power potential.

well not me. I like having the original motor in the car. Id rather tell people they got smoked by the factory engine rather say "its a mkiv motor".

Really?

I lost a serpentine belt 2 weeks ago. Jose and I walked right into autozone and got another. In stock. It wasn't hard or a hassle.

what's the best LSD i can use if i were to swap in a 6spd? will an mkiv LSD fit? or if i used the 89+ LSD's.

that would be the only reason i would keep the 7M

today a 300GT followed me for a little bit. he realized i didn't want to race and turned round. like i'm gonna race him with my GE motor... my 97 Altima is faster than it is!

i'm seeing packages for 2jz+6spd on ebay for like 5.5K. so when i get back from the desert, that's what i'm gonna do. thanks for all the input on this.

the 2jz won again, only cause it shouldn't cost as much this time, now that i have a 89+ crossmember and i know what to do, plus i'm gonna keep the twins on there for a little while

The RPM limiter is built into the OEM ECU program so no piggy back can remove it. I own a MAP 2 ECU, the rev limit cannot be changed.
