edit: well, i totaled up all the parts. it's gonna cost me probably 10k for the build up. that's everything, brakes, suspension, engine.

so with the Map-ecu 2, i don't need an AFC... does it control boost cut too?... i really am leaning towards building a 7M... my buddy who has a turbo RSX keeps telling me to get a 2jz, and if i build my 7M then he'll buy a 2jz and beat me, well, i want them to feel the power of the 7M

i've got quite a list put together... i am going to have a HUGE order through driftmotion and mvpmotorsports... you guys better stock up!

SS braided lines for everything, i'm gonna make my own lines, figure it'd be cheaper that way.

oh, and i want this add on:

get different rods....

no eagles, what else is there? i've read many threads about eagles being, bad, good, alright.... i know th rod bolts they come with are weak, but the rods themselves are ok.

The Eagles use 3/8" ARP 2000 bolts, unlike the 5/16" bolts a lot of other manufacturers use.

The Eagles are also vacuum gassed like the Pauters.

You won't have the same tolerances with the Eagles, but any decent machine shop will get them perfect for you, when you balance your bottom end.

so eagle rods are a no go. even though they are half the cost of the crower and pauter. i figure all the money going into the 7M, FULLY BUILT, would be way better than the money i would have to spend to swap in a stock 2jz. i mean, i'm talking like 600 rwhp with this build, maybe more.

Um...... i wonder the same thing :sarcasm: spend 5-6 grand on built 7m or like 2.5-3 grand on 2jz swap and Spend the other 2-3 grand on 2jz parts, huge turbo, and full tank of gas, and make well over the 500 hp mark. Also 2jz looks a lot better under hood them 7m in my eyes.

I can’t believe you mentioned the 7M and 2J in the same sentence. No brainer there. The 2J is by far one of the best engines ever made. You can make the 7M work but why? I never had a problem out of my 7M but I never once trusted it. I look forward to driving the 2J without watching my oil pressure and temp gauge continually wondering if it will overheat or drop oil pressure. Plus, look at that picture above...it just looks awesome compared to the 7M :)

Aristo 2Js have come down in price considerably ($2500). You could use the Aristo harness and ECU but I think it is easier and cleaner to buy a MKIV harness ($800 new), MKIV ECU ($150). 1J bellhousing and flywheels are pretty easy to find these days ($500). BIC mounts are $180 I think...can’t remember. A complete hydro fan setup is around $300 when they pop up on the forums. You will also need a TT throttle cable and TT P/S line at around ($250) A complete 2J gasket set to replace all the seals on the Aristo is around $350 from Toyota. This gives you a total of around $5030 bucks.

Yeah, the Aristo is still a used motor but I would rather take my chances versus the countless stories I have read on the forums about machine shop or user install screw ups on 7M builds.

If you take your time, you can get stuff cheaper if you watch for deals and make people offers. I got my Aristo motor set for $1400 (had to drive 800 miles round trip to get it though :) ) and I got my MKIV harness for $350 used. I have been collecting parts for over a year but I am ready to start the swap this week.

The other stuff like turbo, downpipe, cams, BOV, intercooler/pipes, fuel system, piggy backs or standalone, etc....have to be done regardless of the motor so at that point its an apples to apples comparison on cost.

Here is my 2J build thread

can i see some pics of your 7M build?

i'm looking at pics of my old 7M... i made it look good,

one time my vacuum line popped off the wastegate, after i installed my new intercooler

i was like holy crap when it hit over 16 psi... i never felt that before
so i kow the 7M can be a really powerful motor just from that experience, with everything being stock. i can only imagine what it can do fully built.

i don' think i would regret it if i ere to choose the 7m over the 2JZ. i would actually feel better when i win races knowing a 7M JUST DID THAT! people would be like, man you got a 2jz under there don't you...nope

what i want to do is revv up to at least 8K though. hopefully the MAP ECU can do that for me, along with a complete Ferrea Valvetrain and Crower Cams. I guess i don't really need adjustable cam gears.
