First off, my '88 Turbo is COMPLETELY stock, with the exception of the new Apexi Power Filter I just put on...
I noticed my stock air filter was pretty nasty, so I went ahead and ordered an Apexi Power Filter (after a bit of research, I decided I wanted to go with the Apexi over the Blitz, K&N or HKS). I received it on Saturday, and put it in right when I got it...
After finishing up, I took the car out for a run and noted that the turbo spooled up quicker and had a very strong / nice sound to it... however whenever I let off the accelerator I get the "chatter" or "rattlesnake" noise (pretty loud when I have a good spool)... I am running normal boost on a stock CT-26 with NO other mods to my car. It does this EVERY time I let off when there is boost, unless I very slowly/gently back off the accelerator... Is this normal? Is this something I should be concerned about?
It sounds cool as hell, but I know compressor surge is not the greatest for a turbo... I guess I was under the impression that the chatter doesn't usually happen unless you run higher amounts of boost...
Thanks in advance for any help,
-James
