As we get ready to prepare for Winter a lot of folks winterize there Supras & retire them in the garage. Unfortunately I don't have a garage & the elements from the last few winters has taken a toll on my Supras stock 17yr old paint. In a few weeks I plan on getting her completely repainted but still will have to leave her outside. I have seen several nice covers & lean towards the ones that are fully waterproof to protect her from the Heavy Freezing rains & snow storms. I have been told that a fully waterproof cover will not allow the common moister to evaporate & will cause mold & harm the new paint & possibly the interior & that I should go with a cover that is water resistant only, not fully waterproof. So which one should I get?

I'd say get a really good one. Fully weatherproof. I haven't looked into one yet, as I haven't needed one... but I will be, so I'll be watching this thread.

If I can suggest one thing, wait till spring to paint the car. I would be awful apprehensive about leaving my car outside under a cover throughout the entire winter knowing I just spent $1k or more on paint...

Covercraft Technalon...size D...Part# 80004
Soft...very nice cover.

Stay away from nylon covers. The material acts like sandpaper on paint.

yeah def get a good cover. a bad cover is worse than no cover at all.

those covercraft are decent, and not bad priced. they are ~100 new but can usually pick up on ebay for a little less.

willie's car sits outside and looks mint. i'll see what cover he is using too.

I have also heard that waterproof is not good. It will trap all the moisture and your car will be in a high humidity enclosure all winter!

Just my 2 cents

Yea but all I have to go on is rumers. I want to know what covers others have used in heavy rain & cold snow climents & If they worked well for them or not. I guess the folks with best exprience would be in PACNW, Great Lakes Area, NE, & Canada.

a car cover and outside scares me. I have had friends that spent a bunch of money on what they belive to be a good cover. But wind and snow and Ice at least up here really take a toll.. I have seen scratches buff marks ect. I personally just put my car away for the winter. I have a cheep cover, but I rent a storage unit. So no wimd or show ect. Mabey look into it especially with fresh paint. I found my unit for $45 a month!!!! Goodluck........

Another option is one of those car tents. I got a cheap one with open sides for about $150 shipped on ebay, but there are fancier ones with sides like a mini-garage. Might work out to the same price as a winter's worth of storage, plus you could keep your car out of the rain year round!

For the price you'd have to pay on a good car cover, you're better off getting a portable garage. I picked a 16'x11'x9' for 200$ CDN, and found a nice spot to put it on my sister's property. A hundred bucks on gravel and you have a pretty damn good spot to keep your car safe for the winter.

The problem I've had in the past with car covers are they do tend to keep moisture in, as well as cheap ones scratch the crap out of the paint. At least with the car tent, you can open up one door and start the car a couple times a month.

Very good suggestion however not sure I could set it up because I'm renting an Apartment. Not opposed to the idea at all & altho I have seen them before I hadn't thought about it till you brought it up. I'll ask the property owner if I could put one up & then go from there. Still welcome opinions from those with 1st hand expriences using a car cover in harsh rainy snowy climents.

Thanks guys

Yea I have heard good things about them & a cpl others. However I still would like to know who has used or even know someone that has used one in rainy to freezen & snowy weather on any type of car or truck/SUV. Let me know of your or there exprience with the all weather water proof covers.
