I think with the larger core cams, you're suppose to upgrade the springs and retainers. With the small core cams (the ones I have) you can use your stock springs and retainers...............although I had mine rebuilt with the good stuff.

Good luck.

'small core' cams from the group buy are 264s. They're a nice upgrade from the stock cams and I think they're fine for your turbo setup. On stock twins you wont notice a whole lot of difference, but there will be a bit (stock turbos dont make power in the upper rpms like the cams want to).

272 has longer duration meaning the valves are open for a longer time.
they also have more lift meaning the valves open more to let more air in.
272s make power to 8k rpm. 264 makes power to 7k.
you need to upgrade your springs and retainers for 272s, not for the 264s
bigger cams supposedly make your turbo laggier though, since they are for top end power.

overall if you intend to keep stock redline and BPU upgrades, go 264. if you wana make huge power, built motor are on standalone and rev to 9k then get 272s

I strongly advice not to go with bc. Reason for is if u want more power in the end I would suggest getting the hks 272's it's a bit more but way more power. One of my buddy's got the bc 272 and made less power then another friend of us that he got some hks 264 and Made more power. But that just my suggestion.

Shouldn't all 272 cams react the same way? Someone with the sponsors or the money should do a test on the same car with the same tune and go from a BC 272, HKS 272, JUN 272 etc.
Regardless, its all in your tune, even if you've got a great cam/turbo set up without a thorough tune, you won't tap into your cars potential.

Here is a dyno sheet showing the difference it made on my car at 20 PSI with k26 turbos.
Dyno272vsStock.jpg

As you can see there is a MASSIVE 141.51 RWHP GAIN!!!! At 7800 RPM and a total gain 79 overall HP!!!

Tissimo on SF went form a 109 MPH trap to 112 by just adding the cams on stock twins!

It was with a 1jz and IIRC 272's by BC

272 just denotes the advertised duration.

HKS, Crower, and Brian Crower all have different lobe sizing for their 272 cams.

IIRC Crower's 272's have the largest lobe size for 272's. could be wrong tho
