Bad loping after hg replace

Just got the car back together and its not wanting to stay running unless I give it gas. Its not throwing any codes and I have double checked all the vacuum lines and electrical connections. Grounds are clean and connected good.

I thought it was an intake manifold gasket that blew out but I just replaced that and it still running bad.

The rpms drop down to the point where the first start warning lights come on then it will jump back up. It does this until finally it dies.

Any ideas as what I should check? The car didnt run like this before I replaced the bhg.

Thanks

It's probably either a massive vacuum leak (which you claim there is none... so...), or you forgot to plug something in.

Also claiming the grounds are good when you have something grounded by mashing a wire under the radiator bracket bolt RIGHT in front of the camera? Come on...

Its a fan ground for my electric fan and it works, so the ground works. Also the ground isnt massed under a bolt its soldered to a circular wire end.

It seems as tho its missing too. New plugs, wires and I checked the timing 3 times. I havent set the cps timing yet because I cant get it to idle to put a light on it set it.

Well... move the CPS through its range while a friend cranks the motor until it will at least run, then go from there.

Im located in Akron. I have tried moving the cps and it helps with the missing but not the loping.

Ok I checked all my wires again and all my vac lines and I can not find anything missing or not connected.

Could this be a timing issue? I set the timing twice thinking it was off but maybe I still didnt get it close enough? Could wrong timing cause the loping? Im out of stuff to look for now.

Did you happen to check you flanges ( for straightness ) on your intake manifold before putting everything back together?

I speak form personal experience, if there not true, they can and will leak, and will act pretty much like a huge vacuum leak.

define "fine".........

IIRC no more then .003" warpage.

But Im sure you already know and how small that is. Also Im sure you had a machinist edge to check it with, and just couldn't think of the name of it since you called it a "metal straight edge". Just wanted to check.

It was within spec I checked it with feeler gauges and only got .001 in two places.

Could this be a timing issue?

Could be, have you checked the timing yet :aigo::aigo: ?? should be 10 degrees. That is pretty much step one when troubleshooting

Well the problem is I cant check the timing because it wont stay running. It surges between 500 and 200 rpms then dies unless I give it gas. dont you need it idling at 750 and warm to check that its at 10?

Then yes re-do your timing. Aline all timing marks. Make sure cam gears are in the center pug hole. Pull cps cover off and make sure it looks like this

Start here.

Been awhile but I got it running. Idle is kind of low and bouncing. Timing is dead on at 10 degress btdc. Hopefully the idle will smooth out.
