A bought a set of used studs from a member on here.
I cleaned all the threads on the block. Studs should be installed finger tight, right? Or do they have to be torqued down?
Is a set of ARP studs supposed to come with 28 washers? Are you supposed to use two per stud?
Are the washers supposed to be placed on the head first, then slipped over the studs onto the block? I couldn't get the washers on the studs while the head was on the block.
What are they supposed to be torqued down to with ARP moly lube... 95lb/ft? Will using an extension affect how much you're supposed to torque it down?
Thanks for the help guys.

1. hand tight dont torque.
2. 1 washer per stud.
3. washer goes in first then head either goes on over the studs or the studs get dropped in.
4. you wont get the washers on with the studs in and the head on.
5. Since there used im guessing there the older studs which the torque spec are around 80 ftlbs. Newer studs are 90 ft lbs. Never seen them go as high as 95.
6. I use a 14mm deep 3/8 socket with 1/2 -3/8 adapter and no extension is needed.
7. all of this can be found from searching.

hes correct but i want to clarify the extension part.

extensions that are 90deg to the torque wrench do not change torque.

taken from a jeep web site
An extension (i.e. 90 degrees from face of torque wrench)... will not change the torque...

Grinwa hit the nail on the head...an adapter WILL change the torque... extended away from the face adds torque, extending toward the handle decreases torque.

oh and i seem to remember getting the washers in with the head on but since you have it off just do it his way to be safe.

1/2-3/8's adapter is like a small extension. And you can get the washer in the head with it on just not with the studs in.

I always glue the washers to the head using a dab of moly grease then with the studs installed into the block I lower the head on then fit the nuts.

Best advice EVER. Moly lube is nice and sticky so it keeps them in place pretty damn well without risks.
