Hold on with your knees and be loose on the bars helps your front wheel stabilize itself.

Yeah I find myself doing that rather often...I need bar risers to make it more comfortable to do that all the time...the bike is set up more for dirt that road in stock form so with some minor adjustments I'm sure I'll feel more control at highway speeds:)

Needs stiffer front springs as it nose dives with slightest brake input...very common complaint in all the DR platforms:-/. Need taller gearing as at 75mph I'm at 5000 rpm and it redlines at 7500...need to adjust the balancer chain etc...typical shit but for around town driving I love it!!!

I'm thinking about getting into motorcycle riding, and this is what I'd like my first bike to be:

Fine and dandy if you're a 110 pound rider:-/. I'd shoot for something 400cc or bigger myself...90 percent of bike accidents are cause by people in vehicles not seeing you, not because your bike has too much ass. Get something with a bit of balls so you won't need to buy another bike in a year as your confidence and skills improve.

My 650 already feels small to me after riding it every damn day the past few months....ride in the rain etc...I am very greatful it has enough ass to toss a girl on the back and do the speed limit no problem!

I figure a 300cc bike would be enough for me if I were to ever buy one, I'm light enough. Does "slow car fast" apply to the bike world too?

Kinda strange, Kawasaki doesn't mention power output or redline on that bike. Compression seems a bit low to me too, I thought most bikes were in the 12:1 range...

I've had two motorcycles: 1994 CBR 900RR, and the one before that, a 1989 Ninja 250.
My experience with the Ninja 250 can be summed up as follows:
I wasn't sure of whether I would really like riding, it looked OK, but I did not want to invest too much money into a bike that I wasn't sure if I would really enjoy or even crash.
A Ninja 250 seemed just right, not too pricey, and not too intimidating. I definitely would not want to learn how to feather the clutch on a bigger bike.
I was able to do 105 MPH on it, and with my friend on the back, I managed 95 MPH once.
I had it for a year, and even dumped it once (glad I didn't do that to a bigger more expensive bike).
So a year later, I sold it with 50% more miles than what I bought it for, and at the same price!
Bought it used for $1500, and sold it for $1550 (although I threw in a cheap helmet with it at the time of sale).
When I look back at that 250, it was great on gas, had plenty of power for everyday riding, was quicker off the line than most cars, I think I did right.
Of course if you ride with a sport bike crew/street racer crew, you will want more power.
But for legal riding, it is more than enough, and just right for a beginner.
All that said, I would not buy such a bike new, as it is likely that these bikes might be outgrown quickly, and you will lose if you buy new then sell a year later.

So I ended up buying the Ninja 300 (in white as pictured earlier), and I've put a bit over 700 miles on it now. I absolutely love it! I'm like 130lbs, and the power is just enough for my tastes, I don't imagine ever replacing it. Straight twin, 13k redline, 6-speed.

Most bikes can't run on 87 octane :)

Looking to buy a new bike for this season. Wanting a CBR600 badly. Any owners?? I'd love an 07-08 but not holding my breath.

A friend of mine is, and he says the reason he went Honda is because the riding position is relatively more comfortable than the other brands he was considering; slightly more upright. My brother has an '08 R6, and the bike has its rider noticeably bent over more.

The difference in rider position between my brother's R6 and my Ninja is hilarious.

That's awesome!! Yeah... I'm 6'5" so that is definitely a huge factor for me. Currently I ride (in the summer....) an older FZR600R, and I'm really looking forward to the upgrade. Absolutely love the sound of those CBRs too. What kind of Kawi do you have? My bro has an '06 matte blue 636 that is just gnarly!

I'm too lazy at the moment to upload pics of mine. Maybe in the morning.

EDIT: I had no idea that Facebook allows hotlinking of its photos, this has opened up a whole new world of possibilities for me lol. Anyways:

Your 300 can? That's pretty awesome I suppose. Should make for a durable engine I would think... :)

There the 636 I mentioned earlier. We had it all torn down to its skivvies to repair and reinforce the ram air duct. Too many wheelies set down far to hard disintegrated that piece fairly quickly. Unfortunately that sole piece is the main support for most of the front and side fairings.
