I know, it's not a Supra, but it's part of the roots of the Supra. Was at a local drift event this weekend and saw this beauty in the parking lot...

1970's Toyota Celica (and no, I don't know who that is in the background)

Since were talking about roots, in my opinion: The 78 and 79 Celica'a have a similar dash configuration as the mkiii Supra

I had a 79 for a while, nice dash, but didn't really remind me of the Mk3..? The one pictured above is gonna be a 71(?)-77, as it's a first gen. Gotta love the little mini-Mustangs. :)

Would have been a 71-74, they redesigned in 75 and the mirrors weren't on the fenders anymore.

The car that has the closet dash configuration as we do is the 2000GT. Car and Driver even stated that when they reviewed the 86.5 Supra

Drop a 1UZ in and call it a day. I'd love to own one, but the older a car gets, the harder it is to find replacement parts (especially interior).

I wish I could stumble upon one of these one day. Such badass looking cars.
Quit being greedy Mr. Old School Rolla... :p

Waaaaaaaaaaay back in the day I had a Bud that shoehorned a 302 into one ;)
Did he put a Ford logo on it? If so, I think they made a few of those like that from the factory... ;)

At that point, I think you just gotta start making your own stuff. I nearly picked up a 77 with an 18rg about 4 years back, but it was pretty much strictly a race car at that point.

I agree with Poodles on this, those older cars are awesome, but finding replacement parts for one that isn't in fantastic condition has to be annoying.
