Canada, eh?

The local RCMP were nice enough to take a fine photo of my Supra, for the low, low price of $80!

They even got my 'Guy Fawkes' mask in the shot, too! ;)

Disclaimer: 80km/h in a 70km/h zone, unfortunately, which isn't much; and I wasn't doing this on purpose. Speeding is bad, don't speed! It's too expensive! ;P

That's ridiculous! For us on the english system, that's about 48 in a 43 zone. Down here, a cop won't even stop you unless you're doing 10 over, unless its in like a school zone or construction area. That sucks.

I'm not sure how Canada works, but those are throwaway tickets everywhere I've lived. Unless a ticket is served to you by a law enforcement officer or official of the court, and you SIGN for it, it is not a valid ticket in most states. Who is to say you ever got that in the mail? Or that it was even you driving the car? ;)

Unfortunately, unpaid fines in my province, whether handed out by a police officer or not, must be paid by the alloted time or else I get a lot of nasty demerit points and a court date. It sucks. D: They could peg me as a "Dangerous Driver", and I could even lose my license. Talk about Draconian!

A little spraypaint makes them a lot less identifieable. :p

While this is true, it's also rather easy to see that the camera has been messed with from the outside... meaning it gets fixed pretty quick. Vaseline is effectively invisible, so until they pull the photos and start actually looking at them, they'll be clueless.

I bought an escort 9500xi... No tickets yet and it tells me where all the cams are. Very worth it. At least you don't get points against your license though. In Alberta, you can't register a vehicle with unpaid fines

Well, they're a bit more lenient here with photo enforcement, but you can't use any DMV services until you pay the fine. So that means that next time your plates are up for renewal... Pay up or else.

I haven't spoken to anyone around here who's ever received a ticket for less than 16km/h over personally.

I got one of those a couple years ago, and it was complete bullshit. I remember that I even saw the photo vehicle before I drove by, and was doing 68 in a 70 zone. Got a ticket in the mail for 86 in a 70 zone. Ticket $110 vs day off work ~$140, plus legal fees. Cheaper to pay the extortion ticket.

The 'good thing' though is that there's zero demerits for a photo ticket, because they can't prove that you were driving. Doesn't even count as a moving violation for the same reason. It's just a straight-up fine. Cash cow, say "moo."

What's the fine for getting caught shimmying up a camera pole with a jar of vaseline?

The cameras are inside of manned vehicles parked off the side of the road -- at least here. (Often in places that you'd get a stiff fine for if you got caught parked there.) Messing with the cameras isn't something that you can easily get away with. (The flashes are mounted on the front bumpers.)

There are also photo-red cameras, some of which are equipped for speed-on-green. Personally, though, since those are all well marked, I've not much sympathy for anyone who gets a legitimate speed on green ticket.

Depends on whether you're carrying a strap-on and wearing pants.

Almost made me choke there

Any of these cameras have to take a picture from the front as well to prove it's you here. Think that's why we haven't had speed cameras installed, and a lot of the red light cameras have been turned off because they're clogging the court system (GOOD).

In Alberta, we dont have front plates.. :)

Plus.. in Edmonton (just because I think thats where Dan is from.. lol) they also have the traffic cams as well. Some are both speed and red light cameras, some are only red light cameras. When I go up to Edmonton, I am always greatful I have my radar detector, because it prewarns me at each camera'd intersection (they have a lot of them). "Speed cam ahead!"
