Take it to a DS shop and have them put a tube in to replace the bonded section (making it a 2 piece) ;)

I have a couple of drive shafts sitting around (along with a couple of everything else), If I join two halfs (in phase) of two seperate driveshafts to get a good one, would it need to be balanced?

Massive vibration issues as well, i replaced the carrier with someone's used one to see it helped.. New rims really helped, turns out the mk4's i was using were warped... There is still a slight vibration at 70 MPH that gets progressively worse. I'm thinking to hell with it replace it with a single alum drive shaft as i'm done with toying with that bullshit stock one.

I can't see any dammage to the U join and the carrier was known to be good but who knows.

The stange thing is the vibration is so bad that I see the hubs spin up and down on the at the rotors when doing 60 MPH on jack stands... Still can't figure it out... Also there's not enough load to figure out where it's comming form on jack stands.

I have recently come into the same problem... but it's from 75-100 (Probably higher) It shakes so bad now i'm scared to go over 100... hell, i don't even wanna go over 90 now lol.

Anyway, I noticed the problem a few months ago. I was getting new rims/tires anyway, and that did not help. I also did my rear brakes, replacing the rotors and pads.

I have yet to check my diff or driveshaft... though, i wouldn't be surprised if it had something to do with my diff, i've replaced my fluid on EVERYTHING, except my diff. :(

Same with me...new tires (balanced on the car) and all my suspension components are new or "as new". Just had it aligned (4wheel). I am working on the driveshaft right now (just took a break to check my favorite website).

I'll post up as soon as I have the 411. I hope this fixes it cause I'm gonna be neurotic untill I get rid of "the shakes"

It shouldn't need to be but trust me the bonded section failure is a lot more common that you'd think due to age/power/driving style.

Jeez! "bonded section" (said with disgust), like we don't have enough driveshaft issues to deal with.

I was thinking about it last night, and I thought ,"I can't be the only one this ever happend to". Funny though, you never really hear anyone talk about it. Maybe alot more people just live with speed sensitive vibrations because they overlooked the "out of phase DS" when the were trouble shooting vibration.

BTW, I will also mention that when I was hunting down my vibration, it was not as easy as just one thing.

I replaced the driveshaft, it got a tiny bit better, then the differential and it was just different. Then new wheels and tires finally fixed it.

Oh Man!!!

I pulled the driveshaft and would you believe the rear half (where it's a tube bonded inside another tube) is out by approximately 90 degrees.:aigo:

I never would have thought of that!

I'll post some pic's later.

Hope this cures it.
