So after some work I finally finished my 2J cam swap in my 1J supra.... After a few delays I got everything running and for the price I paid for my cams all I can say is wow.

What started out to be a valve stem seal change turned into sourcing 2J cams and after some search on here I was able to get a hold of some.... So the parts I gather for the job where:

2J cams (Already grounded)
2J valve cover gasket from Toyota
28 2J cam bolts
Toyota FIPG
No. CPS sensor
1J valve stem seals from Toyota
1J Cam seals from Toyota

One Issue I ran into was the correct tools needed... But I was lucky and found someone on this forum that was nice enough to lend me all of the tools needed for the valve stem change:

Here's a few photos of parts being layed out:

So one thing I was happy about was the parts cleaner they had on site... I was able to clean up a lot of stuff before installing everything again. OVer all I'm really happy about these cams.... I love the fact that I have smooth idle and more pull and power... The most important thing is that I have much more top end pull, which is the 1J falls flat. One thing I did notice after the install is that my boost pressure dropped from 15 psi to 12 psi. I'm considering raising it back up but I'm worried about pushing the stock injectors too much. I got a hold of some 720cc injectors for free but I need to get them cleaned and flow tested as well as a 2J resistor pack. Any ideas on whether I'd have any issues pushing them to 15 psi with these cams? right now at WOT i'm at 10.9 AFRs so I have quite a good amount of range before leaning out much.

You making less boost now due to less restriction from more cam. I would turn it up.. are you still on stock injectors ?.

I ran my stock injectors to 20 psi with bc264 cams. And afrs were still good

are they 370's? you could pick up some 440s for probably a 100$ pop them in and then feel safe about running up to 18lbs. I upgraded my stock twins internals and was thinkin about putting cams in but I heard they still drop off around 6000rpm, you should dyno your car for reference =p

What was your reason for going with 2J cams vs the BC cams or others? Was it price related or cam related? In the future, I will eventually do some cams also so just wanted input. Also, besides the valve keeper and valve seal puller what are those other tools?

All of this was based off of price. I'm moving to Guam soon so my car will be stores at my brothers while I'm out, because I was changing out my stem seals I knew I want to do something while I had them out so I found a set that was per milled and ready to go for $125 shipped. For the price and the extra power I'm happy for what they have provided. The extra set of tools are for removing shims while the cam is in. That way if you need to move some around you don't have to keep removing the cams

Very impressive. I run my car pretty regularly at 16-17psi on the stock 370cc injectors, afrs when my wideband is cooperating are usually mid 11's.

False on that one buddy:

This was on stock everything except cams and head porting, and 3" exhaust. ~12psi, and only revved to ~6300 by the dyno operator for some reason. The cams aren't the restriction at this point, the tiny turbos, tiny manifolds, and tiny outlet piping are most suspect in that regard, at least to me. :)

I want to do this exact swap on my 1JZ. Good to know that the boost does drop down a little bit after the swap, this thread has some great information. I also liked how you decided to do the valve stem seals. I never even thought of those to be honest. Mind you I'm gonna be putting in some JDM 2JZ 440cc injectors to be safe. I'm already around 80% duty cycle and don't wanna push my injectors any further. I am putting down 310RWHP on my current stock 1JZ @ 14PSI of boost; hopefully that can be upped to around 330-340RWHP after the new cams and tune.

Question though, does the sound change at all? Do you notice a change in the tone of the 1J rasp?

To be honest only in higher rpms didn't I notice a change in sound, I've run 16 psi on stock twins and injectors with out issue at 11.9 Afr and 12.3 Afr so hopefully ill be fine at 15-16 again. I have some denso 7 20 injectors but I need to get them cleaned and flow tested as well as a 2j resistor pack.

I'm at 14 psi and my AFRs are at a solid 11.3 all day long. Only when it's really cold out at night do I see my AFRs around 11.7.
